Hey all. I was a TFF member years ago and life got in the way and I pretty much stopped fishing almost all together. I took my nickels and dimes and scooped a couple fresh, cheapo rigs to get back into the game. 100% bank fishing at this point in time. What have I missed in the last several years about good methods and baits for low-buck bank fishing? I usually fish(ed) Bardwell. Thanks!!

welcome back.

For rod and reel, things for me are pretty much the same. Earthworms, shad, cut-bait and punch bait. Using range cubes as bait is my only big edition. There are lots of great catfish anglers on the site right now, so you should get some additional responses.

Bardwell has some good blues in it. I haven't fished Bardwell any way but from a boat, but when I bank fish, I do my best to have the wind in my face. I also look for a location where I can fish a point, or channel bend that is within casting distance, or maybe the flat next to such structure. If you can find sand bass chasing bait on the surface that is a bonus. I like to run 3 way rigs or Santee rigs with dragging weights to reduce hang ups. I like circle hooks, but you need to have sturdy rod holders for them to work well. Hope this gets you started anyways.

Not sure what all areas are open on Bardwell. Used to fish there some, before I got a place on Cedar Creek a few years ago. There are several parks and places you can walk to, depending on what the parks and wildlife have open.

Try to find a spot on the bank that the wind is blowing into your face... that should be pushing the bait - shad - towards the bank. I like cut bait for blues. Punch bait for channels.

Good luck!

What has happed to you does not define who you are-

HOW you react to what happens to you DOES!

Lots of changes here too. Mostly for the better. Just took me out of the game for awhile. In Midlothian now, but not all that far away. I work in Lancaster.
