Many small towns use tickets to print money.

Some towns not so small. Pearland in Brazoria County is really bad on traffic tickets of all kinds and a court of record to boot. Which means you don’t get out of many tickets and they have you nailed when it comes to appeal because they way they record. Not sure you can get an appeal in a court of record in Texas for traffic violations. The deal I got into in Pearland about 8 years back with my company car insurance was crooked mess. My attorney told me if we lost I had no chance for appeal. I finally was able to get out of it and convince the judge I had insurance. I handed the officer my old insurance card that had expired by mistake. He came back with a ticket. I found my new insurance card and he told me to late take it up with the judge. I took my proof of insurance to the judge. They came back with they could not verify. I had to get an attorney. I had the insurance underwriter leave a message on the judges cell phone saying they had not been contacted to verify, court never called and that I had insurance. Judge had to let me off. That lady judge called me and left me a heated message on my cell phone, she was pissed.

I had my house in Pearland sold and moved within a couple months of that deal. If I’d got the ticket for no insurance the company I worked for would have pulled my company car because they couldn’t insure me and would not allow sales to use personal vehicles. I’d have pretty much been out of a job and lost my pension. It was a big deal to me. What was really funny was the court cost. I got out of the ticket but I had to agree to pay court cost. They set me down in front of a prosecuting attorney. They all but ask me what I was willing to pay in court cost. I asked how much do you want, she said the maximum which was 179 dollars as I recall. I wrote a check on the spot.

Don’t get a ticket in the Pearland city limits is all I have to say.

Driscoll Texas south of Corpus has been crooked for as long as I can remember. Few years back they busted Driscoll police for selling confiscated vehicles. They would pull over the Mexican nationals that buy the wrecked cars and tow them back to Mexico to be fixed and resold. They would pull them over, confiscate there vehicles and resell. They got got caught.

Thanks, Billy

school zone cameras are becoming popular all over Georgia....where they get you is those cameras run 24 hours a day and if you exceed the posted speed limit by more than 10 mph for that road before or after school hours, you get a ticket....I'm told they also they are putting them up at city limits of small towns...and...these small towns stick city limits out a mile or so from edge of town where there are no houses or businesses and no reason to slow down...

Cuney, between Frankston and Jacksonville was a known speed trap also.

Yep, they got me twice coming back home from lake Palestine a few years ago… just barely over the 45 mph speed limit after coming down the hill into town.. had one speeding ticket in 50 years prior for going 30 in a 20.

I have mixed emotions about them completely shutting down. I drove it everyday. With 2 liquor stores, it slowed down the 75 mph in that 55 zone. Now its back to Indianapolis 500. It was not hard for me to go 55, keep seatbelt on, license plate light working, and tags current. Already seen 2 bad accidents since.

Cuney is well known in this area,, I rarely pass that way , but know to slow down well in advance. My last ticket was in Zavalla . frown

50 cops in Coffee city is crazy , sure that can't be legal . The state needs to look into that mess.

Back in the day Selma was one of the reasons they curtailed cities restricting speed of interstate freeways.

I used to keep my travel trailer in that RV park in the pic above .... we would sit outside and watch the cops stop car after car after car.

Baird,Tx off I-20 used to be horrible, Clyde was a close second. The Judge in Clyde actually called my Grandmother(I lived with her in Abilene) and told her if I didn't come pay my speeding ticket that night, he was sending his Sheriff to get me. The Judge had a pretty nice house and family and seemed like a pretty cool dude but he wanted his $$.

I got pulled over in Calvert back in 1989. I told the SOB to pound sand. I got to ride in his car to see the judge right then. I got pulled over for 38 in a 35. Cost me $450. Plus impound fees and a scratched up bumper as well.

Waskom, TX; Rio Vista, TX; Bosque County, TX; all will get you for 1 to 2 mph over the speed limit. Seems like they all have tickets preprinted with 12 mph over the posted speed limit, though.

Covington, TX used to be really bad as well...until they got rid of the chief.

Sounds like Coffee was a fun town, but you had to “know somebody”. I bet the 50 a-holes and the entire city council were banking!

Full disclosure I got pulled over east of Gainesville, oak Grove I think. Tiny place with city hall in portable building. I told the officer he could wipe his arse cause I was never paying it and I didn't for 4 years..... till I got pulled over in Cleburne and got to spend the night in Johnson County jail lol. I'm not sure I felt like I had won.....
