Years ago when I lived out in fort bend county, Pecan grove area. I had a friend that had a metal building and roofing company. He got some of his workers to help him put up Christmas lights. I think they got to drinking beer and came up with the bright idea make a cross on the roof with lights. Long story short, lights flamed out and almost caught his roof on fire. He ended up with a cross burnt into the singles on his roof.

Thanks, Billy

Put ours up yesterday...ran into a snag, on the roof line. Had to order more lights as I redid my design. I'll post up photos later.

I have always decorated the house for Christmas. For years we had one of the nicest light displays in the neighborhood. I worked for 54 years then retired. I still installed some Christmas lights yesterday. It's not what it once was but it looks nice and it helps celebrate the season.

When I was a kid, all the parents did these things, starting with Halloween. Very few houses had the lights off back then. It was for the kids, always for us.
I appreciate their efforts so now I make the effort.

Cut with her golden oars the silver stream,
And greedily devour the treacherous bait.

I don’t have to put them up anymore since no one can see our house

First, that is no excuse! Lights are for the family.

Second, you would prolly need to start in September with as big as your house is. It would be cooler if you just made 'em batttery powered and wrapped the horses in lights instead.

We gave up as we couldn't compete.
One neighbor had a crew of professionals out for 3 days putting up their lights.
I am too old and the roof line too high to take the risks anymore.

Neighbor up the street has been putting his out for 3 days now. Tons of lights plus those hot air deals. I'm fine with it, but it is like tats - a few nice tats is good, cover every inch of your body in tats and it is not good.

I've always put them up until last year since my kids are all grown up and haired over. Might put 'em up this year. Will only take a few hours if all the strings work. Can't see our house either

Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

Christmas lights are great for getting you in and keeping you in the holiday spirit. The Lord smiles when he sees you have Christmas lights up.
