After having my boat hanging over a mud flat for the last 4 months... Cedar Creek finally has some water. Still foot and a half low, but enough to get the boat out.
Having no idea what the lake is doing, or where to start, this is one of those times that I would normally reach out to Jackie Kennedy. Mr. Kennedy was always good to give me some advice. I enjoyed fishing with him and talking to him. Will miss you my friend - RIP.
Got enough bait in the cove and headed out. Water was showing 60-61 degrees, and they were calling for south winds. Decided to check the river channels. Looked at about 20' first and not much life, so moved down to a 30' run. Batteries were dead on the trolling motor, so was going to have to be a little more technical on setting up the drift... or just get lucky some... LOL.
Was a pretty morning and was showing plenty of stuff under the boat.
Put the rods out and it was pretty slow for a while. Caught a couple of dinks, and missed a good takedown on a big bait. Couple of decent box fish, and then had about half of a 12" drum head and body slammed! Pretty fish, battery on fish finder also dead... guessing upper teens. Couple more box fish, but nothing really big. Turned them all loose anyway.
Enjoyed it and thankful for the opportunity to catch what I caught... still looking for the big girls...
Will do it again soon.

Ken, glad to see you get out on the water. You've been shackled with the low water. I drove over Cedar Creek on Saturday and was surprised to see it up as much as it was. When I saw that, I wondered if you were out on the lake somewhere. Good job getting on some fish. It's a tough outing the first time out when you haven't been in quite awhile, as far as having everything working and ready. It's frustrating but oh so satisfying as well. Hope you get to do a lot more fishing in the next couple of months!
The fishing is going to get better and better from here in.
As to batteries and boat readiness, I'm retired so have plenty of time to make sure everything is ship shape. I still screw stuff up, almost every time.
