The Rangers now have 12 free agents, pitcher Aroldis Chapman, catcher Mitch Garver, outfielder Robbie Grossman, catcher Austin Hedges, outfielder Travis Jankowski, pitcher Ian Kennedy, infielder Brad Miller, pitcher Jordan Montgomery, pitcher Jake Odorizzi, pitcher Martín Pérez, pitcher Will Smith and pitcher Chris Stratton.

Kennedy has already announced he will retire.

They also moved pitchers Jacob deGrom and Brett Martin from the 60-day injured list. Players cannot be on the injured list going into the offseason.

Since pitcher Andrew Heaney picked up his 2024 player option and the team picked up pitcher Jose Leclerc’s option for one more season the Rangers have 33 players on the 40-man roster. This leaves them room to make some moves to protect certain players from the Rule 5 Draft and maybe makes it possible to sign a few free agents.

Multiple sources are also saying that the Rangers may be a "lock" on signing closer Josh Hader from the Padres. I like what Leclerc did during the postseason for Texas but getting Hader would be a huge signing. Hader, and All-Star left-hander racked up 33 saves across 61 appearances with a 1.24 ERA with the Padres this past season. He has 165 career saves and a 2.50 ERA over eight seasons.

Holy [censored] that would be awesome!

You could let chapman go and have your 7th/8th/9th guys with Sborz/Leclerc/Hader.

I'm assuming they'll re-sign Jankowski for not much, and Montgomery is probably a big question mark (assuming they'd love to re-sign him but want to see what the price tag is). Probably at least some part of Garver's future depends on how real the Ohtani rumors are.

Heard the same rumor about Hader. If that were to happen Leclerc could move to more of a set up role that could extend to 2 innings. Sborz has proven he can take the ball and compete for more than 1 inning at a time. Much more solid than this year.

Hader has a lot of pitches on his arm. The Brewers used him a lot.

JR

He's been with San Diego since the trade deadline of 2022. He's pitched 72.1 innings with 40 saves and 107 Ks!

He's been in the majors for 7 years and his average for a 162 game season is 76 IP, 72 saves and 126 Ks.

I think he's got a lot of pitches left in those arms.

They can have him. I like his fastball, but he lacks control of it at times.
