I’ve been a fan of the Texas Rangers since they moved here from Washington in 1972. I was 27. Along with a bunch of you, I have suffered thru a bunch of disappointments and miserable seasons, but those are all forgotten now. Now, I’ll remember forever jumping up and down with RATZ and my granddaughter in my house as last night’s game ended.
The Rangers went three generations without winning the Series. They left deep scars when they broke our hearts twice in the 2011 championship. But Nelson Cruz is now off the hook, We have a better memory to talk about thru the years.
Random and Rambling Thoughts about this season:
I hastily pulled this together this morning (over my first cup of coffee) from a bunch of reports, so I’m sure there are things and events I’ve left out. Feel free to add to this list.
Recovering from the disappointment of losing the Western Div title on the last day of the season and having to start the playoffs as the #5 seed instead of #2.
The team may change the name from Rangers to Strangers next year because they were on the road so much in October. (This is actually my original thought.) Remember the trip from Arlington to LA to Seattle to Tampa to Baltimore and finally back to Arlington to finish the regular season and start the playoffs.
Fighting thru injuries all during the regular season and the postseason.
Proving that this was a team sport and no single individual was needed to win. Whatever the obstacle was they overcame it.
Setting and breaking their own record nightly for number of road wins – 11.
Setting several records for runs scored.
Sandy Koufax Bob Gibson Reggie Jackson Corey Seager Elite company. Seager becomes just the fourth player in MLB history to win multiple World Series MVP Awards.
About 20K Rangers fans were in Arlington at Globe Life last night for a HUGE watch party.
And to the Disastros fans, thanks for taking a lot of krap from us this season. Well deserved, but thanks anyway.
Finally, The City of Arlington will honor the Texas Rangers World Series Championship with a parade and ceremony on Friday, Nov. 3. All events will take place in the Arlington Entertainment District and will be open free of charge to all fans.
The parade is expected to begin at 1 p.m., with the entire team expected to participate. It will start near home plate and loop its way west and northbound around Choctaw Stadium. Following the parade, there will be a public ceremony in the North Plaza outside Globe Life Field adjacent to Texas Live!.
The ceremony will include remarks by Texas Rangers executives, manager Bruce Bochy, and Rangers players. Bally Sports Southwest will provide complete broadcast coverage of the parade and ceremony.
Just wait until next year has a new meaning now.
Went and Took It!

The news about the death of Frank Howard two days ago brought back maybe my first memory as a Rangers fan. He was with the Washington Senators when they moved to Arlington. He hit the last HR in Washington and the first one here.
Howard was a BIG dude -- 6'7" and 275+ pounds.
I was at one of the first games they played at the old Turnpike Stadium. I saw Howard hit a massive HR. I don't remember the estimated distance, but it cleared the stands in deep center field by at least 10 feet.

Congrats to the Texas Rangers and their fans ! "Took it" is the right phrase.
Arizona was definitely not equipped to win a world championship while Texas was.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it !

Read an article last night that Kyle Seager was offered the opportunity by Chris Young & Co. to come out of retirement and play with his little brother in Texas when Corey signed. He turned it down saying he was content doing 'chores around the house'. Hindsight is a brutal mistress.....

I wonder if he had taken that offer who would not be here that was a part of this championship team. A little wrinkle like than can change things down the road.

I'm trying to convince the wife to let me pull the kids out of school tomorrow for the parade.

From Mike Leslie of WFAA Channel 8 Sports:
Wildly random but incredible stat that our Sean Hamilton just saw:
Not only were the Texas Rangers 11-0 on the road.
They beat the Rays, Orioles, Astros and Diamondbacks.
The first letters, in order of the teams the Rangers beat spell: ROAD
