What rods, reels, and lines do you guys carry with you bank fishing? Do you just choose one type of fishing for that trip? Like, "Today I'm throwing crankbaits for bass. So I am bring that rod and reel". Or do you have a clever setup if two or three rods that cover all your bases (or bass-es har har). Specifically I'm asking for you bass bankers. Catfishing and the like is of course a different (and simpler gear wise) ball game.

I know the boat guys seem to have a specific rod and reel for every lure in their tackle box, but "we" bankers can't carry ump-teen rods right?

I was just curious what two or three rods you all use to allow versatility and effectiveness?

Bass fishing only. I carry a bunch of rods and tackle in the car. Usually load up the sling bag at the car and take one rod. I can always go back and switch out equipment. I used to take several rods and a huge bag, but didn’t like the hassle of moving around. With one rod I’m more mobile and can cover more water.

A spinning rod, a 6'6 medium rod, and a 7'0' or longer Medium Heavy rod. WIth those three rods you can cover a wide spectrum of lures. I took a large plastic bucket (like diswashing soap etc) and put it inside a second plastic bucket (gives it about six inches more height), used the 3round trays you can get a hardware store, and a plastic "seat" lid you can get in hunting section of sporting goods store. screwed two eyelet picture hangers on seperate sides (also holds both buckets together) and attached an old suitcase strap to the eyelets to carry the whole thing over your shoulder. You can carry plenty of tackle and use it to sit on. I even put an old snow ski fanny pack around the top on the outside to put small stuff in like extra hooks, sicissors, needle nose plyers, car keys etc....

I know you were only asking about rods ....

I will say that I tried to find the “one universal rod,” but never found the right combo. It never felt right for one or two of the baits I threw most. Either the rod was too stiff for one bait, not sensitive enough for another, or the reel speed was off. I have a few that work for several methods, and I use them more often, but I feel I always want a separate rod handy for specific techniques. I find it easier to keep them in the car and go back and forth as necessary. That works better for me than compromising with one rod.

So many species, so many rod options. I always have several 6500 Abu reels on 6’6” ugly stiks, 6/7 weight fly rods, Plnor fishing setups, and a Zebco or 2 for my wife. I have been known to fish all of them at once. breakdance

I take one rod fishing and keep one in the car in case I break one. I use a seven foot medium/light rod with spinning reel which allows for easy casting and working the banks. Cheap gear only as the stuff is going to take a beating. Small backpack with some tackle and water. Extra set of clothes in the car in case I get wet or muddy.

I built this mainly for my bank carping trips. Holds 3 rods and the net, plus all the other important stuff inside. Not watertight, but that's another project in the making.

Lakeside= sandies.. about 85% of the time. Always carry my 6’10” falcon Cara t7, to throw blades, Cordell’s and 1/2-1 oz slabs. Berrypro 9’6 striper killer is really my go to, casting trolling weight 1-2 1/2 oz with 1/8 jig head. Berrypro has a great selection for budget fishermen.

I usually have about 5-6 rods in the car. Depending on where I'm going/what my plan is, I will bring anywhere from 2 to 4 rods with me. I have a flambeau T4P I usually carry but I also have a small plano 3400 bag I keep with some essentials if I want to be moving around a bit more. With the t4p I can carry a decent kitchen sink, I don't like being caught in a situation where I wish I had something. But it's not a huge box and with 2-4 rods I can throw everything in it
