Wanted engine data on the HDS. I have the white plug on my 2005 VZ225TLRD, white and blue wire at the back of the white plug. I ran the interface cable from the white plug to the backbone at console. I then ran the drop cable from the backbone to the HDS unit and the backbone power wire straight back to the battery. Three tee's total for backbone and the two terminators. With key on I don't see any data.?? In HDS settings under device list I don't see the motor. Anyone know? Thanks. pix is with the key off, same as key on.

Depending on the age of your motor the interface cable for Yamaha prior to Yamaha Command Link works. The Lowrance Interface cable plugs into NMEA and the Motor directly. If you have Command LInk Motor then you have to buy the Yamaha Box to make it work, Just like Mercury does.

Thanks T Bird

2005 ZV225TLRD and now I have the powered NMEA network installed from the motor's white plug with the blue and a white wire, running to the HDS unit, but get no data. So now I can install a Yamaha powered Command Link system network with a Yamaha black gateway box and link it into the powered NMEA network? Or does the Command link use a different plug at motor that would work? And leave the NMEA network out of it, seeing how that didn't work by itself? wow. Thanks a lot...

Is your motor a command link motor or not?

Oh, ok. Thank you. No it's not a Command Link motor I guess, having the white plug doesn't mean anything. Even though the motors owners manual (printed in 2004) shows all about digital gauges, it was just another thing throwing me off, which doesn't take much. I ask Yamaha USA if maybe having the harness and then if just changing out the ECU would work and they told me no, a lot of different wiring. Unless someone has done it.
I forgot to ask if I could still get that Yamaha digital tach gauge? I would like the digital tach, extra over heat warning and the engine hours readout it has.. Thank you again.

OK since it not Command Link then the interface cable from Lowrance will work. I would say you have an install issue. What that is I have no ID. It could be as simple as your NMEA setup. A test go to Device list on your Lowrance and with the NEMA backbone powered on does it show up on the Device list if NO then you have an install issue. That is where you can start to figure it out.

Thank you. So some hope anyway. I'll keep digging. I got a beep from a volt meter when I checked continuity in the interface cable from the motor end to the other end at console. Also the tee's beeped from one end to the other. I did buy the cheap 30.00 interface cable on eBay because the end connector comes apart, makes for easy install through the rigging tube. But I have continuity with it... Should be good? I'm going to recheck it again. I ordered a Lowrance cable now, not the cheap junk.

Did you check the device list and is the Yamaha showing on the list? if not its your NMEA backbone is not installed correctly. Describe your NMEA back bone connections power node, ETE ETE

Ok. In device list it only shows the HDS9 unit. And, I did try using a different HDS unit. An older HDS5 gen1 or gen2 model. In that data source list I see that under "engine" there is a couple additional things I didn't see with the HDS9, one being hours. When I highlighted hours I got a dropdown with some numbers and a not valid note.? BUT, the first 3 in the number, is the same as in my motor. 60Y...? pixs... I don't know...

First the first pic is not the device list its data sources 2 different pages. Can't tell on the cables if one of them is the power node if not where is that one.

In device list it shows HDS9 unit only, no motor, that's in the HDS9 unit, not shown. And no hours shown in the HDS9 unit under data source.. Shown is the HDS5 unit in data source, that does list hours with that dropdown and numbers.?
Power node is the red one.? I ran the red one to the battery. And I did try it with the red one on the end, engine in the middle and drop cable to unit on the other end.

OK since your engine device does not show up in the Device list, This means your NMEA backbone has no power to it. This means something not connected not the right parts in backbone, Bad Tee, Bad Cable not the right cable. The NMEA backbone is a very simple backbone but More people have issues with this than any other Lowrance Product. What I don't know is how your backbone is run, ARe you connected to 1 or 2 HDS units? Every Device gets a Tee, Drop cables which are 2ft long from from the Tee to the device If you run a long cable from Console to Bow then that gets connected at the console at the end of a Tee then another tee on the other end with Terminator (assuming 1 device) the drop cable to HDS Unit. This is same for Console unit, If you have a point 1 in the back of your boat then that cable go to the other end Tee under console and a Tee that the Point 1 plugs into with Terminaltor on the other end of Tee opposite Cable to Console Tee.

Bottom Line no list in Device List then no power to your back bone. FYI the back bone gets powered from a power node Tee under the console.

Good Luck
