Since Choke Canyon is extremely low, I was wondering if anyone had guesses on how many more years of lack of rain will put the lake at dead pool.

What good will rain do? It looks like every time the lake gets any it is released downstream.

I don’t think there is more than 4 feet of water on any ramp so it won’t really matter.

Fishing is on fire! Everyone needs to rush down and rape the lake, like they’ve been doing the past several years.

Fishing is on fire! Everyone needs to rush down and rape the lake, like they’ve been doing the past several years. That is sad, This is my lake of choice and acttually the closest lake to my house. I wish there was a better system to policing those who catch and keep the fish that are not regulation. I hope some of this rain raises the lake a little.

The mentality of the traveling angler isn’t the same, as us that fish it frequently. Sure, I’ve seen plenty of San Antonio guys rape the lake, this guy was one of them. No care about letting the bigger ones go. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2023/10/full-35324-202796-img_5800.png)

All of south Texas just needs water. If those lakes fill back up, look out.

Hold up.
South Texas lakes fluctuate drastically in water levels? I’m floored, has anyone alerted the media?

That's a lot of fish tacos for the local Mexican restaurants, and there was probably triple that in there gill nets. Good luck policing that as they travel all over the great state of Texas. Pretty darn sad. 😕

Personally seeing that picture irritates the hell out of me. There are better tasting fish in the lake. But those big bass should have been released to grow even larger. I know it's legal to keep them but damn, that's just iratating.

I lived in South Texas for many years. Fished Choke, Falcon and Mathis now called Lake Corpus Christi quite a few years. Choke has been under the knife ever since it opened. Many from south Texas have the same mind set as Louisiana folks do, if you catch it eat it. A lot of it comes from the saltwater back ground many anglers have and they fish to get fish to eat.
In the mid 80’s we were pre fishing Falcon for a tournament and watch Tournament anglers out San Antonio put 5 pounders to the knife at the state park ramp on Falcon. Then fish against them in a tournament the next weekend. Dock talk said guys were trying to catch fish out of competitors areas but who know it was dock talk. But cleaning fish at the ramp by tournament anglers was known and not popular. We didn’t have social media back then but still made the rounds and was known.
Falcon and lake C.C. Will come back full pool one of these years. I doubt I’ll ever see Choke at full pool in my life time. It filled up quickly with heavy rains and tropical storms when it first opened. Filled up way quicker than planned. Even if they did get water they would put it right back in they bay.
Thanks, Billy

I'm glad to see there are others that feel the way I do. I really was expecting a raking over the coals on my post. I went to choke yesterday and there were so many jug lines that you had to be doging them to get from one end to the other. Like I said it's very sad that our S. Texas resources are being raped as you put it. Send their !@# up north where there are plenty of lakes and water.
