If I only had one gauge on my boat it would be a water pressure gauge

Only other thing you might try outside of the above advice, and it is a longshot to be the fix. Get an all allen wrench and pull the plastic screen off of the water intake on the lower. Just inspect it to make sure some clay isn't clogging up the screen. I've had clay get in mine. Never to the point that is dropped my water pressure over 1 or 2 psi, but you never know. If not I would say you need to drop that lower unit and take a look at that water pump. Water pump is a cheap fix compared to overheating that motor.

If the keyway came out and you are a glass half full kind of guy, you can look at it this way. The hardest part of replacing the water pump is out of the way. Those keyways are a bear to get out sometimes. I've had to take the dremell to more than one. Hope you get it figured out.

Seems the 4 month old impeller or housing was bad .
Replaced the impeller and housing and it is now working correct .
