I am also a sixth generation Texan from LaCoste and Castroville..
But we differ on the beans.. :-)

Bunch of yanks. my grandad was a fourth generation texan from bandera. If beens are good enough for him they're good enough for me. You could buy or grow all those ingredients 4 generations ago? I don’t see Rotel 150 years ago.

Who has a good basic recipe? Pack of Chili-O and ground venison. Follow the directions, it's very good. Same pack for the best pinto beans too. Been using it for decades. I have never hear of this or seen it in a local store. I will give it another look and try it. Have to get it on Amazon now. 10 packs for $16.20. My mom used it for pinto beans when I was younger and that's all I ever used it for until 2 weeks ago I tried the recipe for actual chili.

After scrolling this thread I remembered I had 1.5 pounds of ground beef, so I made the weirdest chili with veggies I had laying around. Hope it turns out good.
Fresh green beans
carrots
red onion
can of tomatoes
tons of different spices
