I have $80 to spend on a reel at Cabelas. Which one is a good all around bass reel for the money? I have Abu 5600 series reels now but they seem a little "heavy" to do pitching and flipping. I'm new to bass fishing and want to learn those two techniques. By the way, I'd like to use one set up for lefties.

I am a great fan of Abu Garcia, Try the Hank Parker Signature series 4600 C3 instead or the 4600 C4 series, both are under $80 and both are excellent reels in my opinion.

8 to 9 ounces is what the reels are going to weigh

I second that one. Great reel for the bucks.

May I suggest a Shimano Coriolis.

If you were to be able to add $20.00 to the 80 you could get a Cruxis.

ABU GARCIA hands down.

Abu has a new flipping reel (2005LP) that I am checking out. It retails around 65 bucks and has a flipping switch on it. I am going to get me one of those for my birthday. I am reluctant to try any other brands because of bad experiences with plastic gears and poor products. I was tempted to try one of those Browning reels, but all I have to do is remind myself of the junk I have purchased in the past. You can't go wrong with an Abu reel in that price range. The Abu Torno's are nice as well, but I think they are over that price range. You can also look at the ABU 4600 C3 or C4. I have 4 of these and they are great for just about any kind of fishing.

Glad to have taken..."the trash in the back!"

Bass Pro has the Daiwa Advantage 150H on sale for 59.88. I called Cabelas in Fort Worth and aked them if they would watch that price and the manger, Travis Kirk approved it for the 59.88 price. Cabelas price is 99.95. They only have 4 or 5 left. I almost bought 2 at that price, but bought a new rod also. I have not used it yet, but tomorrow will be a perfect day for fishing. I have heard nothing but good things about these reels, so I am eager to try it.

You defiantly need to check out the PINNACLE MATRIX. It is priced at $79.99 at Gander Mountain and is one of the best fishing reels i have ever fished. I know b/c i work at G.M. and I own a Matrix myself. It has n extremely smooth and free spinning speel which makes it great for flippin jigs. It can also cast extremely long distances even with lightweight baits. Let me tell you one more time, PINNACLE MATRIX!! Check it out at G.M., b/c I don't know if you'll get that price at Cabela's.
God Bless and Good Fishing!!
