I have had many of great conversations with Lane over the years. I am absolutely stunned and deeply saddened. I hope Lane is hanging with my Dad, Matthew Carroll, and all the others we have lost too soon. Heaven just gained an angel and a true Texas Fishing Legend today. Prayers to his family. This song has helped me cope since losing my father. You won't be able to listen to it without shedding some tears. Lane was a great guy and a hell of a fishing guide. He taught this old dog new tricks on crappie fishing. I still can't believe he's gone. Prayers sent to his family. RIP Buddy

My brother in law and I started fishing with Lane soon after he started guiding with Bigcrappie.com. The first time I is saw this skinny, bearded, long haired kid walking across the parking lot to introduce himself to us, I was thinking "we're in big trouble here. This kid can't be old enough to know anything about fishing." Well, Lane took us down to the dam & put us on some huge hybrids. Then he put us on a great crappie bite where we both limited out. Then he put us on the sandies, where we nearly caught our limit. I then had to pray for forgiveness, because I'd been profiling, and profiling is wrong. This kid knew how to fish!
Through the next years we continued to fish with Lane, and somewhere in there we became friends. I treasured our trips, because he always taught and old dog something new. He came to Lubbock several years ago to speak to a mens group that I attend, He gave his testimony. He was a great Christian.
When my brother in law passed away unexpectedly in 2020, Lane was one of the first people to contact me. He told me God needed a great new fishing buddy in heaven.
I know He got anther one today.
RIP my friend.
