This thread is running on the ragged edge right now. Please keep it "On Topic" tot he Opening Post. As I read it, that questioned the courtesy of bowfishing with lights and airmotor around camping areas and near places where folks are trying to sleep. It then expanded to cover courtesies when going around other fishermen fishing at night. No other debate is necessary.

Don't knock the sport until you try it...it's a blast!

People running over lines, I'm not sure about that, but when your on the deck staring into the water with lights you can't see anything on the bank...your pupils can't adjust that quick.

I love to hear the sound of a generator! It puts me to sleep! Many night at the deer camp that was the only thing keeping me asleep from hearing my uncle snore!

Good thing is when people are bowfishing they are moving...they won't bother you long...

Not trying to stir anything up, but giving a insight into the world of bowfishing at night. BTW If you like seeing fish and how they act at night get out a spotlight and watch them...I have learned alot about fish staying out all night.

Thanks for sharing. That was my point in that it is not something that happens every time you carpers go out fishing. Unless you only carp fish once or twich a year and one of those times is when you have a bad experience, then you can claim it happens 50% of the time. If you are an avid carp fisherman and go maybe 2-3 times per month and it happens once or twice per year, we are still less than 5% (I hope my math is right).

Every one has their eggheads that are blatent and dont respect others. But it is not the majority and because it is not the majority, it does not happen every time.

Dont hash out remembering those few bad experiences. Enjoy the time you are out on the water. Ladies have a long term memory. I know my wife is always bringing up from when we were dating and we have been married for over 20 years. Man, she just cant drop it and move on.

If you think about it Fishing in General is mostly
a Country Boy sport.

But break it down into categories (i.e. bass, crappie, catfish,
bowfishing, etc...) and you see that Catfisherman have more "redneckish" country boys, then below that is bowfishing.

So percentage wise, we probably have more stupid rednecks in our country boy ranks than most, therefore more inconsiderate treatment of people. So it's not the sport but rather the people involved in it. But we're trying to police our ranks and clean up our image.

Well, on the other side of the coin, when I'm hauling a$$ at daylight on a Sunday on Big Cypress river (fishing for Bass), I'm sure some folks that choose to live with public water in their back yard might be awakened by an old 150 2 stroke yam moving through. I'm just saying it works two ways.

Thank you. It's nice to see an intelligent post rather than the usual anger towards others for their method of fishing.

Its funny, when I saw the thread topic, I thought "Oh no, here we go about bowfishing itself". But the complaint on here IS a very valid one ... I've only had it happen once myself, but it was VERY frightening to realize that some yokel is POINTING A DEADLY WEAPON AT ME!

Pardon the pun, I think one point of this thread is that when a bowfisherman is using a weapon that is just as deadly as a firearm, they have an obligation that goes above and beyond courtesy to other people. They have to know what is in their field of fire and beyond it. This goes way past rude or inconsiderate ... and I don't think that most bowfishers are like this. But just as with drunk driving or other reckless behavior, the minority of fools can cost someone their life.

No way this compares to waking up the neighbors with the 150 yammie.

All that we need is a little repect for the rights & safety of others and debates like this wouldn't happen. Unfortunately, in our "me, me, me, society" today that just doesn't seem possible. Road Rage and the people who cause it is just one of many other examples of the same childish irresponsible behavior. I say respect the rights of sleeping campers, bowfishermen, and carp fishermen. Don't make a horse's patute out of yourself regardless of which you are. PETA just loves to hear us fight among ourselves!!!

Thats funny, I thought the topic/thread was about a person being disturbed by a loud gernerator and bright lights. The aspect, if even really happened, about being attacked by bowfisherman, was added later.
