Would anybody happen to know why the line on my reel is bunching up like this? I just put brand new line on it sometime last week. Took it out on Saturday for like an hour, and it started bunching up like this. I've never seen it do this before.

Is your worm gear screw loose or worn out? Is it level winding left and right smoothly when you reel?

Yes, it reels perfectly fine left to right. Reeling it in is not what causes the issue. This is what it looks like right after I cast. I've unloaded all the line, and reeled it back in several times, but the problem still persists.

looking at picture two; it looks like your line is under one of the lines that is on the spool before you put it through the guide and then the eyes of the rod. This can cause it to pile up in places. Pull it off slowly and pay attention to the spool, checking to see if the main line is under one of the spooled on lines.

Is your drag set to be free or very little pressure? I've seen this when my drag was completely backed off. There's not enough tension to keep it spooling correctly with a skip due to drag slip.

These are some great questions. I'll have to check on these whenever I get home from work today. Very well could be the drag. I just oiled the bearings not long ago, and I always loosen the drag whenever I pop off the slide plate.

Tighten the bottom up on the cap/nut thing on the worm gear. use a flat head and tighten till snug. put some gear lube on the worm gear also.
