...don't fish pretty much just see the belly? I was looking at some frog lures and I realized several have complex color patterns on top but a plain white belly. What colors would you all recommend to start? A website I read said white, black, brown, bullfrog, and bluegill. thoughts?

Color pattern on top side catches fishermen.

White and Black. I fish straight white 99% of the time.

This. You can color the top with sharpies if ya wanna. The fish see the bottom.

Probably doesn't, but when walking it in open water the sides and top rolls into the water a bit, as well, the back of half of some frogs sits in the water. In clearer water, it is possible the fish sees the top and sides, more contrast than anything.

So it looks cool in tackle box

I think its pretty important...since my frog inevitably turns upside down and refuses to run correctly after contacting the smallest of twigs

Black & White 90 percent of the time, Every now and then I feel a little crazy and throw a brownish/red one or bluegill.

The top color for me is just for me to see so like a lot of others I mainly use White and Black but for my Black frog I take a White one and color the bottom with a black marks a lot so I still have the white top that is easier for me to see.

In clear water, they can see the top due to light refraction. I still don't think that warrants the elaborate fisherman catching detail on the tops and just go with what I can see best. Maaaaybe in clear water, pressured fish where you let it sit still forever between twitches you can justify that, but it's still probably overkill.

Only throw white and black...

I'm sure the fish can read the "This is a lure, not a frog. Please don't eat me!" That is apparently written on the back of every frog in my tackle boxes lately.
