Doc said the shot is a short term fix for mild cases. From what she saw my deal my be systemic (meaning the stuff may be in my bloodstream and could reoccur periodically). Based on that, she put me on Prednisone for 30 days with decreasing dosage weekly. Hope she troubleshot it right. hammer

I got a systemic case about two months ago. Got the steroid shot, antibiotic shot, Predisone, Benadryl pill and antibiotic prescription. Used Calamine, Cortisone 10, Aveeno Oatmeal Bath, benadryl cream and Ivarest. And more than two months later, the swelling is still there, with the redness and the itching returns from time to time. I have had poison ivy/oak/sumac before but it was isolated to a spot or two and went away after a couple of days. This time it covered my legs, ankles and top of my foot, and refuses to go away.

After trying several things, I found what I will use from now on. I wish I would have found this stuff two months ago. It is a little pricey, but the tube is for 15 applications. No more itch and most of the redness is gone already, after just one application.

Yep. I went through the same thing 1 month ago. Just finished my prednisone.

Isopropyl alcohol if you catch it right away. Pour it on your arms. It helps.

Would you take 10 million dollars but for the rest of your life you have poison ivy covering 1% of your body that rotates weekly?

After dozens of trips to the doctor and steroid shots, he finally told my mom mix water and Adolph’s meat tenderizer (unseasoned) into a wet paste. Rub on with a cotton ball and pack it on and let dry. You have to scrub and break the skin. Itch is completely gone if you do it correctly. Scabs over in a day and gone. Been doing it for 35ish years. I seriously don’t have to touch the stuff to get it. I get it bad bad.

Smoke on!
