It was a beatdown! We had many locals telling us how bad it was on Friday before the tournament and they were spot on.

One the first day after weigh-ins we had more folks telling us they won't be back. They zeroed which accounted for a 1/3 of the field. I wasn't surprised coming in at 2 that of 38 boats 26 were there. We did see a few smallmouth come in. Was unaware they had smallmouth.

Seems more brutal to have a Championship and only have 38 entries!

Man that looks like a fishing down there. That’s almost as bad as a the weights of an event at Fork.

Is that lake any good anymore? It used to be a popular tournament lake back in the 80's, before the Florida fish sent everyone heading east. I remember sleeping in a camper at Plowman's on the night before deer season, fishing a club event the next day. Woke up to 6 inches of snow in the bottom of the boat so we just drove home. The only boat on the river was a john boat that looked like they were headed hunting.
I wonder if the fish ever came back from the Golden Algae.

Seems more brutal to have a Championship and only have 38 entries! Good way to win $5000 guaranteed for a $120 entry fee though. Very few times will see that much return on an entry fee.

I think that lake has been fishing down for a while we had our club Championship there last year (we dont have many members ) in October 4 lbs won , maybe TPWD needs to restock it.

When I attended Hill College, we used to go fish at there after practice in the evenings and catch a ton of small smallmouth and small largemouth schooling at sunset.

I've had some very slow September days there, hope the golden algae hasn't come back. I know MLF didn't exactly light it up when they fished a Cup event during the fall a few years back.

1. worst time of the year for whitney 2. over population of stripers seems to be taking a toll 3. lake has been in a decline for several years, seems like bass population gets lower while the striper population increases.
