My grandma made quilts and co-authored several quilting books, as well as owned a fabric/quilting shop in Lubbock. I have a lot of quilts she either made or collected from over the years.

Mom is 89 and still quilts.
Dad died in '99 and Mom gave me all his flannel hunting shirts. I could not wear them since they were too small and I just couldn't give them away. I asked Mom to make a quilt out of them and she made one for me and my sister. One of my most prized possessions and I take it hunting every time I go so I have him with me on every hunting trip.

Everyone should remember this and remind all their family to keep Tshirts, sports jerseys, loved ones' clothes. There are lots of quilters out there who can make great memory quilts from such things and they can become family treasures. My wife has made a bunch of them over the years.

I want to add one more of my wife's quilts. This is the one in the Texas Quilt Museum, in a section called Hall of Fame quilts. She spent so many hours quilting this one because there was so much detail. The quality could be better but this is a picture of a picture. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2023/09/full-23811-198896-20230925_084315.jpg)

Grandma didn't have time to quilt as she had to make clothing and blankets from flour sacks for Pa and his siblings. Later in life, she started to crochet. Have an afgan she made. Brother and my best friend had their concert tshirts made into a quilt. Best friend's wife made 'em. Made my concert tshirts more valuable.

Bill that’s really cool. Does she whether any out at the Great State Fair of Texas? No. She never s had any interest in that. She developed a very loyal customer base of ladies who brought their quilts to her to be quilted and for quite a few years had almost more than she could handle. At one point the business was so good that if you brought her a quilt it might be 6-7 months before you got it back. She rarely did a quilt for us or family. She did have a soft spot for young mothers and newborns, and I have no idea how many baby quilts she made, and they were always custom designed by the mom's colors and content. And she always gave them away as a baby gift from her. I think the most special quilt she ever did was for the mother of a young girl at Arlington HS, who died (I don't remember the cause) early in her senior year. Donna got a bunch of tshirts from the mom, made her a memory quilt and gave it to the family. Arlington HS also graduated her with her class and gave them the diploma as well.

Paternal Grandmother quilted and made rugs. Wish I had her rug loom, but it went to a cousin that lived closer to her when she passed. She was getting kind of forgetful and made 2 wedding quilts for my wife and I. Maternal Grandmother was a knitter and crocheter. Have a few things of hers. Memories that last.
May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!

I think quilting and needlepoint were the reasons my grandmother stayed active and attentive into her mid 90s. Did it up until her death.

Hopefully Sawhorse will add to this and share the things his grandmother could do. She was a very talented lady.
