I bet just bringing back the ability if the adults to be adults and the kids to he kids would help a lot. That video of the Mom someone posted tge otgercsayvtelling the school board off was on point. Somewhere along tge way we have let the kids have too much power abd too much say. They are not yet able to have that responsibility. They are xalled dependents for a reason. Seems these says there is no way that discipline is allowed. When there are no consequences for had behavior then it could name a teacher's job a lot harder.

I think we can all agree that the paddle is a very effective deterrent up until about 15 years old. It is my understanding that allowing the paddle is at the discretion of the district.

Got paddled once, I think it was 4th grade. We had a rock fight during recess, one of the kids got hit on the head, blood all over the place, teachers showed up and we were busted. 2 very light whacks with the paddle, waiting out in the hall for the punishment to be administered was the worst thing. Anyway, paddling ceased to be a deterrent after that. Fear of what the old man would do was what kept me in line (mostly).

Until the "parents" take control of their kids nothing will change... My Catholic high school started take vouchers for student who were from the inner city about 20 years ago because of falling enrollment. The place just turned into an inner city high school, drugs, fights, total anarchy... Teachers and staff started to leave, the alumni donations fell way off ... After 5 years they stopped taking voucher because parents with good kids were no longer sending their kids... When I graduated in 1980 there were 1300 students, all male, my graduating class had 354 kids... Today it's a coed school with 400 students give or take... Dan I can certainly see that happening.

There were four or so of us that may have been a bit over enthusiastic tackling the new kid in smear the Q at recess. I was thankful I was the last to go as the principal was getting worn out. The blood curdling screams of the first three recipients were plenty of deterrent and I went out of my way to befriend our new classmate after that.

Highland Park is just about as close to the inner city as you can get.
Let's be honest, the proposed voucher program will have close to zero impact for inner city kids.
However, the voucher program would catalyze the formation of multiple shady "private schools" that would find all sorts of loopholes to take advantage of that 8K voucher and run the school at maximum profit generation. What’s ironic is some of them would- and there the kids would still get a better education. Government is so full of fat and waste that a poorly run business is always a better experience. I can’t think of one thing that the government can do better than the private sector. 😂😂😂 You think “there” kids would, huh❓🤣🤣🤣 And don’t blame it on autocorrect either. After this whole thread I just had to point that out, my apologies.

Seems these says there is no way that discipline is allowed. When there are no consequences for had behavior then it could name a teacher's job a lot harder. The Supreme Court ruled in 1969 that students do not "shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate." This is true for other fundamental rights, as well. That was the beginning of the end... I remember my sophomore year in high school, my history teacher was a massive man (played linebacker at Ohio St. for Woody Hayes). First day he walks in and declared his room was not a democracy, it was a dictatorship and if we didn't like the way it was run we could attempt a coup just like any 3rd world country... Well one day 5 of us thought we'd take him on, but only three actually followed through. I jumped on his back and he threw me like a ragdoll, got another in a headlock and pounded on his head a few times before he fell to the ground and the third guy got punched in the chest so hard it knocked the wind out of him... After about 30 seconds the room started to calm down the principle stuck his head in the door and asked the teacher if everything was okay, to which he replied, everything was fine he just got done teaching a lesson in how dictators put an end coups... Best Teacher I ever had... Dan

Sounds like a great teacher…even with that Ohio State background. That gave him instant cred... Only way he could have been a little higher on the pedestal would have been if he had played at ND... Dan
