I registered as a boating volunteer to take some kids fishing at the Cast For Kids event next month on RR. https://castforkids.org/event/rayroberts/I have not fished this lake in several years, so I'm looking for advice from some regulars on this lake. Not looking for your honey hole or specific spots. Just general guidance on what you would target to put some kids on fish and a general area or depth/cover that time of year. October 14th. I typically chase hybrids and Sandies on Lewisville and Stripers on Texoma, but I think some simple bobber fishing or something like that will be the best option for getting the kids on some fish. Any advice would be appreciated. we will be launching at Isle Du Bois.

Thanks for volunteering.
Look up the brush piles on Ray Roberts. You can find them on the Texas Parks and Wildlife website. Go to the ones in the cove down by the dam, they call that cove State Park Cove, it's to your left when you leave Isle Du Bois. You can catch Crappie, brim, catfish off those bush pile and be watching for the schooling sandies as well. If that doesn't work, just troll in the cove with crank baits and you will catch fish. Kates point is another good place to troll as well, it's the main lake point.

David is spot on.
I also like sand bass flats up by wolf island. For this kind of fishing I like a storm wildeye swimbat with a single hook. You can run around between the dam and wolf island and usually find the sand bass.
Minnows on the brush pile can get you bit as well. If you want the brush pile coordinates I have them printed off at home and can scan a copy over to you if needed.
