I am an Abbott supporter but completely opposed to his desire for taxpayers to shoulder at least part of the cost to pull kids out of public schools and move to private schools. We are already very over taxed if you want to pull your kids out of public school then assume the complete financial responsibility to make that happen. I will add I think that most that would be doing this anyway can afford to do so.

I have not talked to any of my conservative friends that agree with Abbott on this one. I hope it gets to a vote I have to think the taxpayers will shut it down.

Does anyone on here think this is a good idea?

Mods I am not a member of the Bunker can we leave this one in the OT at least for a little bit so I can see some of the replies?

When it comes to what’s best relative to educating the youth of America, investment/return analysis, taxes…etc., I always PM Derek.

I would like to see private school vouchers to allow parents the choice to opt out of the public school wokeness should they desire. But to Texas schools credit, there are still some good, solid American value schools in existence. The schools my grandsons attend still Pledge Allegiance, and the National Anthem is played at sporting events, etc. It depends on the county I think.

I have to agree with Hard Rain. My school taxes are high enough and I don't care to help with vouchers, too.

The only people I've ever heard that agree with helping pay vouchers are the parents who have their kids in private school.

I am coming full circle on support of vouchers simply because I am so disillusioned with what is being taught in our public schools and how it is being taught. If public schools want to take the woke politics out of the classroom and start preparing students for the rest of their life, fine. If not, parents should have the option of sending their kids to a school of their choice without having to pay for both. The public school system has brought this problem upon themselves with bloated administration departments, woke politics, and treating teachers as an afterthought. Get back to putting out a quality product and the voucher issue will go away.

From a taxpayer standpoint it shouldn't matter. If the state is allocating X number of dollars per student per year, what difference does it make if those dollars go to the Dallas ISD or some private school? If the private school tuition is more than the state allocation, then the parents should be paying the difference, not the taxpayers.

I 100% feel all this would do is cause increases in property taxes I mean how could it not the money has to come from someplace. The public schools are still going to be there not like their costs will go down.

this. Also we need to include charter schools in the discussion.

I have never had a kid in Texas schools so why am I having to pay? Of course I get why but for you to say no one should have to pay both is a bad argument. If you want to choose to use private schools fine but don’t ask the taxpayers to shoulder the burden of your choice.

I am not educated on the full implications of the matter to be able to answer. However I do have 3 kids, one of each in the three parts of the public school system - high school, middle school and elementary.

I would be in favor of a system that allows parents a choice in the school their child attends. At least a better choice than buying a house in a better school district. The oldest is a junior and we are starting to have real discussions about private school options for the younger two because we are not pleased with several aspects of the high school.

School vouchers are a bad idea. HR is right on target. If you want to send your kids somewhere other then public schools, then it is on you. Public schools are one of the great democratizing institutions in our country and a foundational building block of our society. They provide a consistent educational experience across our country and give the population a common frame of reference.

Vouchers are popular for parents who live in Dallas or another big City. They have lots of options to send their kids to any manner of private schools. What if you live in Zapata or Fritch or any of the other 100's of small towns in Texas? If you live there you cannot participate yet you have to help fund?

I wonder how folks who support this would feel if it was spun like this, " Proposal that Taxpayers fund Muslim madrasa educations"?

If this were to go through taxpayers would end paying for religious schools, what happened to separation of church and state?

You want your kid to go to a private school, religious or otherwise, then you pay for it.

I fully support vouchers, I also fully support blowing up the lines between districts to allow for people to drive their kids to another district. Competition is good. Then let the state distribute the money per kid. Now let's be clear here..... IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN! The TEA and the local districts will and do freak the f out every time stuff like this comes up. They don't like Competition, they don't like accountability, they like the status quo, in their minds they are all doing a wonderful job and will not hear 1 word to the contrary. If you try and have a discussion they will tell you that you aren't a teacher and have no clue what you are talking about. Despite the fact that you have sent multiple kids through and have seen the process first hand
