 6.7 Cummins in Dodge 2500

I have been a Ford F-150 owner for the last 4 vehicles. Went over to the diesel side with a 6.7 in a Dodge 2500 Laramie Longhorn. Not knowledgeable at all on the diesel. With getting older it’s nice to have something that pulls the 22 Majek Extreme like it’s not even back there. What are the do and don’ts with the Cummins? I will mostly run the 5% biodiesel. Costco has it for $2.99. Mostly I will fill up there. Quik Trip has the 80/20 for the same $2.99 so probably use some of that. Oil and fuel filter change every 15,000 or less. Using the Peak DEF. What does oil and fuel filter service cost at a decent priced place? Cant help you on service costs, as we do all our own maintenance. I have three of them and we run em' hard. Just use Rotella T-6, and truck stop DEF. I buy filters in bulk through my dealer as he sells them to me at wholesale. Just put in D and enjoy it.

I don’t know that I’d run 15k mile oil changes, but it’s your truck. Yes, 15k on fuel filters though.
Expect to spend about $300 for oil change and fuel filters. If it has the Aisin transmission, it requires more frequent service.

Take it to the dealer and they charge me $65.00 to do fuel filter and oil change. I change both at 10.000 miles always.

Don’t know a ton about diesels other than some ag equipment. I can tell you on diesel ag equipment baldwin makes a very solid filter. I’ve always serviced my own stuff, and I usually cut the recommended service intervals in half on oil changes. I would do diffs every 30k, trans fluid every 30k (and filter if serviceable), have the transfer case done annually (if 4x4). Fluids are cheap, drivetrain parts are not. With just a few tools sitting around the oil changes and transfer case are usually super easy, (diff too if it has a drain plug), I don’t know what kind of fuel systems those have but anything fuel related on diesel is always pretty tricky, everything else you might consider saving your money and trying it yourself.

I have a little over 190,000 miles on mine and it’s been pretty much trouble free other than a turbo actuator and the DEF system finally failed last year so I just had it deleted. I’ve always done 15,000 mile oil changes like the manual says and I’ve used numerous brands of oil. Fuel filter changes every 15,000 miles that I do myself. Takes about 20 minutes but dealership will flat out rape you if that change them. Also DEF is DEF. Don’t pay more for the expensive stuff. My truck still runs like a top. Do use fleerguard fuel filters from genos garage or diesel filters online. Don’t go cheap on filters bc they won’t hold up. Fleetguard is a division of Cummins. Last, when you drive the truck make sure it’s a long enough drive to get it up to temp. Short, quick drives are hard on these new diesels. They are built to work.

Dont get anything at oreillys or autozone, etc. Their filters don't meet spec for particle size in the fuel filters and injectors are EXPENSIVE. On my 3rd Cummins now. Rotella 15-40 and a wix filter every time the truck wants it. When it tells me time for oil change I do it. 2008 Cummins 327,000 miles, 2011 Cummins 244,000 and 2023 Cummins 3,500 miles. Never had a valve cover pulled or an oil leak. Still own all 3 trucks. They speak for themselves.
