Iā€™m looking for a spot to take my son to fish and maybe duck hunt this winter. I have an 18 ft excel with 44 mudbuddy. Anyone on here ever been to or stayed in the area between east mata and lake Austin called Chinquapin and if so have any thoughts on the location?

Any other location recommendations would be greatly appreciated. We live in North Texas and will make the trek down during his Christmas vacation.

I'd do some serious scouting ahead of time.
Do you have a dog? If no, and you set up in poot mud, forget about wading to go fetch a bird.
The wind dictates your location, make sure you have a good area for both north and south winds. My best sites are not obvious "ducky" type places, I get more results setting up behind spoil islands than in the back lakes. Not the normal looking places.

And I've learned the bigger the spread the better, I generally put out 100 dekes.
