I wish the ER had a garage that I could work in when doing stupid things. It would be so much easier just to walk next door and ask them to stitch stiff up without having to drive so far.

Once in the 70's when making a brush pile on Lake Ouachita. I was about two miles on the lake from Mountain Harbor when my axe bounced off a small tree and got my leg above the knee. Had to climb in the boat go to the marina, disconnect the trailer and drive to Hot Springs in an old truck that had a three on the tree. Every time I shifted blood squirted all over the place. Finally took my belt off and used it for direct pressure on the cut. Got stitched up and drove back to load the boat and drive to Little Rock where I lived. Boat and truck looked like a crime scene with all the blood all over the place. I was lucky it was only a meat cut and no tendons or anything. To this day I have never tried to make a brush pile on any lake and just search for those already made.

Yup! Bounced a hedge clipper off my knee. Went to the ER, got around 15 stitches and went back to the hedge work.

A couple of times. Once I took a kid home after a game and his dad and an uncle decided to have a gunfight as I pulled up. I was shot in my left leg through my door and drove myself to the ER. 4 stitches and ugly [censored] scar. The first time was my 1st year coaching. I was playing scout team QB and took a helmet to the chin. I had already had 3 scars on my chin from the same thing but this time I didn’t have a helmet on being I was a coach. Put a butterfly on it and finished practice. After practice it was bleeding pretty good so drove to the ER. 7 stitches.

Three times.
Weeks after appendix burst, had a blockage and went into surgery next day.
Once for pneumonia. Fever was way up and couldn't break it. Stayed until they broke fever.
Once for catching a ring on a ladder from a deer stand. Degloving injury and 12 stiches. Went back to San Antonio that night.
None of them were any fun and I was sober for all including the deer lease ring story. Did have family and friends show up after check in on all occasions.

Never drove myself, but my wife did one time. I was gone for a bike ride and almost home when she called me. She had fallen and shattered the radius bone that connects to her wrist. First call was... I think I hurt myself and may need to go to the doctor. I told her I'm almost home and can take you if you need to. Couple minutes later I get the second call... there's definitely something wrong with it and I'm on my way to the ER! Doctor there set it and put it in a temporary splint. Ended up going to Dr. Bo Frederick at Carrell Clinic who did surgery and put in a plate with some screws. That was about 4 years ago so she's all better now. But I sure would have liked to have seen it before she went to the ER. It must have been really bad because she HATES going to the doctor!
