Hey guys a question that is kind of related to this topic….Over the years, I have had several of these inflatable jackets inflate while stored inside my boat. Nothing was wet inside the compartment at the time, I’m assuming a weather change or something caused the aspirin looking stuff to dissolve? Just wondering if I’m the only one this happens to? Those jackets get costly when you’re buying recharge kits at $25 a pop. My Academy inflatable is about 15 years old. It inflated in the boat stall once years ago but it happened only once.

Disolving pill types (which is pretty much everthing except the Mustang HIT series) are subject to moisture/humidity/dampness in lockers, etc and can pop on thier own. The Mustang HIT, while more expensive is a superior system that does not suffer from these issues. But all the Onyx, BPS/Cabelas, West Marine, etc brands will be disolving pill types.

Auto inflate vests-I keep them in the house when off the water.

I’m on the water 50 days a year, I don’t think I’ve ever been asked about life jackets, been asked for a fishing license once. Try 50 days on Welsh, Cypress or Bob Sandlin.

If you get an inflatable spend the extra and get the HIT. You will have the pill bobbin go off on the others.

I haven’t found one hell mine is over 300 dollars and isn’t I either have to wear it or have another one in the boat.
