I have 2 bass boats right now, one in storage and one covered sitting by my house. I haven't fished lately because of these high temperatures. I checked my boat in storage and noticed it had a oil leak either from the top screw on lower unit or its coming from the prop shaft seals. I went home and low and behold my other boats had the same exact issue. My question is, can this have anything to do with the constant high temperatures we have been having? Is it possible for the heat to cause the rubber washers to expand and the night temperature to cause them to shrink back? Has anyone experienced this?

I had small leak as well under my lower unit a couple of weeks ago. Like maybe a small drop or two. Initially I thought it was from the bottom screw(drain screw). I tightened it and cleaned the miniscule amount off that had leaked out. Next day same thing. I then realized it was from fill screw. Tightened it and it's been just fine since.

Check for water in the lower unit... Then have it pressure tested for peace of mind... Dan

I went by dealership yesterday and asked the guys in the shop. They mentioned it happens occasionally in this summer abd recommended to drain L/U and check oil. I did it today. All was well. Refilled with new oil and new O rings on fill screws.

Usually when my boat sets up a while I will just had spin the prop some revolutions so the seal and shaft aren’t in the same place all the time. I think it can’t hurt plus you can tell in the shaft is bent. This heat is tough on everything. Depending where you have your boat stored It can get pretty warm.
