When it starts to cool down and before we get torrential downpours I want to start planning, building, a set of water catches that lead into a sump that dumps water into our runoff river or onto our driveway.

I think I need to run three catch basins that lead into the main sump. The sump would be powered by an outlet that I have outside. I would run some wiring through a PVC pipe to it and then have an electrician splice it into the outlet.

Can anyone suggest sumps that would fit this project? What size piping should I use 3" or 4"?

Any advice from those who have done this?

do you have to lift the water to get it out?

are the runoff river and or driveway higher or lower than the catch area?

I ran a single catch with one downspout into 3" but I have a good fall to the pond out back, about 75'.

I should have used 4" due to volume sometimes but even then it drains fast.

I got all my stuff at home depot, they usually have a good selection of boxes for setting up a drainage system.

The issue is the area is close to our septic tanks and that area is lower than the driveway. The runoff river is lower, but it puddles near the tanks as they sit lower / even with rest of the yard.

I'm thinking I can get away with 2, but 3 would be for those storms when it truly opens up.

The driveway would be easier to run, the river would be ideal as it goes away from the house and the neighbors.

Time to start planning this out.
