someone help me remember what are the prime/general fish seasons for Jetty fishing in Texas?
like summer time is probably good for most things like trout/reds/etc. heading into the fall then i would think the reds especially the bulls would become more prominent, does anything bite on the jetties in the winter months? Sheephead will get strong in the spring? i've heard certain times of the year kingfish are possible farther down to the ends of the main/big jetties? what time of year is that? i've traditionally fished majority in the summer and hunted mostly in the fall/winter but wanting to try to make some time to see the coast more those times of year as well. Just not sure what to expect.

Further south I believe the kings will hang out later in the year but the latest I have fished for them is mid October. November you get jacks and blacktip moving in, at least around Padre Island. If the mullet run is delayed reds may hang around later but I can't say for sure.
January, pompano become more prevalent in the surf.
I fish on a 14 ft piece of plastic.

when is the mullet run technically? I'd be focused on either the oconnor/aransas/mansfield jetties. i don't make it to any of the others. So the kings would coincide with the mullet run? or could be any of the warmer months up thru about october? I've only heard of them being caught on the jetties, I've never caught one or seen one caught.

Jetty has been tough in the summer lately but there are still a few trout near end. Mangrove snapper started to show up. Haven't seen any bull red yet. Maybe a black drum or two. We'll be going again Saturday and see. Once in a while you hook up on Pompano but mainly now sand trout and ribbon fish

I don't do jetties much, but FWIW we were at the Boca Chica jetty July 22nd and there were some kings busting bait at the end of it. They showed no interest in our flies.

Mullet run is between late September to sometimes Mid to late November. Mullet are usually in the surf but the run is different. you can net 50-60 at a time with just a dip net.

The bull reds would coincide with the mullet run along with jacks and blacktip. In Mid October at the Mansfield jetties, I would usually catch reds 25 inches and up, Spanish, Croaker, Sharks, Some Kings, Mangroves. Tarpon (in my first trip I hooked three 20-50lb tarpon on a free lined mullet. One I fought for about 20 minutes before loosing him in the rocks. An epic battle on an old Shimano bass rig) and maybe drum (I think so, although I don't actually remember catching a drum this time of year). Later in the winter the pompano start to appear in the surf (oddly, I've never caught one). I don't remember what bait is working that time of year. Maybe shrimps and such. I never really caught trout but I don't fish for them specifically much. I think the big girls are in the bay during the winter. I've also caught snook at that jetties in October. I'm going later this year (end of October) and I'm going with Jeff Wolda (Padre Island light tackle adventure https://pi-adventures.com ). Jeff took over the NP slot that Billy Sandifer had for years. I hope to learn to read the beach better) Billy Sandifer's Website is still up and he had (has) a schedule of the best time for different fish ( https://billysandifer.com/Best_Time_For_Species.php ). Billy passed away a few years ago but his legacy lives on with the PI clean up.

i appreciate the information. my fall/winter is usually consumed with deer season but i'm hoping to start finding some time to get into the salt a little more that time of year too.

i've driven some on PINS mostly in the summer months. i've only gone about 30mi down is the farthest. Is the beach driving much different in the fall than the summer? If i've made it 30mi without trouble would it be expected that it would get much more difficult past 30mi in general all teh way to 60? i know its subject to circumstances, just curious about what would be typically expected.

I think the beach driving is affected more by the tides than the seasons, although, I don't drive it in the summer so can't be sure. Just make sure to avoid the shark tournament. Coming back one year from the Mansfield cut took us 7 hours. It was wall to wall shark setups. I think that is early October this year. I've never had trouble driving on Pins, even during moderate high tides when you have to drive in the deep sand. But, it's much better at low tides as long as they're aren't a lot of washouts.
