OK, Steve sent me a stainless prop to try out on my old tub. Got to thinking about it, and I've never changed a prop before in my life. Anything special I need to be looking for or concerned with in the procedure? It's a 1998 Force 40 HP. Just pull a cotter pin, remove a nut, replace prop and reverse procedure?? I hate to sound stupid but...hey wait a minute I AM stupid! grin

I use a 12" piece of 2x4 to lodge between the anti-cavitation plate and prop when tightening and removing the nut. As a rule, I never re-use the cotter pin, no matter how good of shape it's in when I remove it. I will also add some marine grease to the shaft and threads anytime I remove the prop. Other than that, it's a fairly simple process.

Wow! Everything should be that easy!! Took more time to gather the tools and grease than it did to actually swap 'em out! Thanks! By the way, I expected to see a cotter pin, but instead saw some other strange looking keeeper. Just put it back on because I don't have any of those.

You probably have a tab washer. Make sure three of the tabs push into the hub. Their reusable for several prop changes.

those little 40hp props have a two tab washer. once the nut is tight, you pull UP the two tabs against the flat sides of the prop nut.
