My trolling motor batteries have just about had it. Thinking of going lithium. Boat is wired for 24v. It has two positive and two negative wires from the back of the boat to the front where the two reds join and the two blacks join. If I get a 36v lithium can I simply connect the two positive wires to positive and the two negative wires to negative? There are 50 amp relays on both red wires.

Thanks,

Is your trolling motor 24 volts?

I know this is a 36 volt 3-12v system and what you are thinking about is one 36 volt hattery. depending on wiring size I would say yes but I am no expert. If I understand it right you are wanding each wire to carry half the load? When you increase the voltage the amperage will go down so one set of wires may be enough depending on the size of the wire.

It appears that a Force needs a 60 amp breaker. I would not run a 50 on each wire, but again I am no expert.

It seems to me that you could pull 40 down each wire if you were running 2 and had a problem for a total of 80 and never trip a breaker. Maybe somebody with more knowledge than me will chime in.

If they aren’t 6g, pull them out and wire it properly. You only need 1 positive and 1 negative, along with the proper sized breaker. Your boat sounds Jerry rigged right now.

That’s not how it works, the wire won’t split the amperage in half.

yes you can put the 2 together and use current wiring, change to a single breaker tho, force needs a 60a.

my previous champion had the 12/24 wiring and I just connected them together and used existing wiring. my current 202 I rewired with 6ga. so I could use the factory wiring for front power for graphs etc.

not jerry rigged, that is how they wired the 12/24v stuff. front plug could combine for 24v.

I know why they used to do it, no need for it anymore and it’s not recommended. If he can afford lithium batteries and a force, he can afford to wire it properly.

Decided I really don't need 36v. Went with two 12v 100amp Millertech lithium.
