I went non-stop last week and earlier this week. I went on a road trip and didn’t eat good, sleep good, or generally take care of myself. I got home Monday night and went fishing Tuesday. It was soooo freakin hot. I got dizzy…really dizzy and short of breath. So bad, I told my fishing buddy to run the TM and I sat down. For 2-1/2 hours I threw a senko from the drivers seat like a grandpa. Yesterday, I didn’t do much, as I felt kinda “iffy”. This morning, I got up early and changed the oil on the truck and some other maintenance. Then I started power washing my driveway and almost passed out. Got really dizzy, and couldn’t get my breath. I thought I was having a heart attack or something. So, I came into the house and took a shower….just in case I had to dial 911, I didn’t want to be dirty. OCD. About 10:30, my wife was getting concerned and asked if I wanted her to call our doctor. I said yes. Well…. X-ray of chest front and side was normal EKG was normal Blood pressure was 117/78 Blood sugar was a little high, but not serious They did a lot of physical tests and decided I had vertigo. Does vertigo cause shortness of breath? Am I just being a [censored]? He prescribed me a motion sickness medication. I’ve been on baits and planes my entire life and have never had motion sickness. He said I’ll be fine in a week or so…….if I ain’t dead I guess.

Sounds more like a heat stroke/heat exhaustion...
Never heard of vertigo causing shortness of breath, but I've never had it, either. My aunt had it as did a friend several years ago...definitely don't remember either one mentioning that. CCTX would be the one I'd ask about it.

My wife has bouts with it. The only symptom that is close to what you describe is dizzy. But hers is more loss of balance. Eyes fluttering and nausea. You can google things to try to help.
What you describe could be attributed to electrolytes. But I am certainly no expert.
Did you feel shoulder and upper arm tightness when you thought you were having heart attack symptoms?

I just read this to the wife who suffers from it, and she said except for the dizziness she has never had any of those other symptoms.

you drinking a LOT of water?
sounds like you had heat exhaustion, NOT HEAT STROKE, it will jack with you and make you feel weird.
get some propel from wal mart, water additive that works.

Pickle juice.
Drink it from the jar or pour it in a cup.
It's got electrolytes.

in the morning, drink at least a gatorade qt. before you do anything, then water till noon then another gatorade or a propel etc. 3 oclock drink another propel etc.
dealt with this framing houses, it is just before the heat stroke hits and you really, really don't want that.

My wife gets it so bad she can’t drive. The doctor does a maneuver I believe they call Elpey. It’s supposed to realign crystal in her ear. I think there are a number of other maneuvers they do as well. It takes a while for it to go away.

If you don't like drinks with electrolytes try Hammer Endurolytes Extreme. Pill form and very good.

Try it. I'm serious. Pickle juice. Or eat a pickle. One of the sour ones that come in a huge jug.

I have had it bad and it does not sound like you had what I had. Sounds like you just got heat stress and need to get rehydrated and stay off it for a day or two.
When I got it I went from normal to boing boing all in a blink of an eye. I was delivering mail, driving between mailboxes when all of a sudden my head started spinning. Me being me I stopped the truck and closed my eyes hoping that in a few minutes I would be ok. I opened my eyes, started the truck and my head started spinning again. After sitting for 10 minutes I knew it was not going away soon so I called in and had a supervisor come get me. Talk about a woose, I could not open my eyes or move my head without feeling that the world was spinning out of control. The emergency room did all their tests and all my vital signs were normal. They suggested I had vertigo.
My wife had gotten to the hospital by then so she took me home. It took 2 1/2 days before I could open my eyes without feeling like the world was spinning. I have a funny story about taking 4 hours trying to navigate my way to the toilet that was only 15 feet from the bed. No kidding, the spinning sensation was that bad. I chose not to eat for several days just so I would not be forced to get up, plus opening my mouth would send the world spinning even with my eyes closed. After three weeks I had recovered somewhat and went back to work. Just moving my head back and forth casing mail made my head spin. I took my time and it took several weeks before things quit spinning. Even then if I drove the truck for awhile and got out to deliver a package my first couple steps away from the vehicle had me walking sideways as if I was a drunken sailor (my apology to all sailors).
My first trip back fishing was at Joe Pool, about 3 months later. I got up front and after 5 minutes watching me try to put my foot on the trolling motor I looked back and my daughter was laughing. She suggested I use a seat. Eventually I got away from having a seat but my balance never fully returned. I used to ride motorcycles but now I cannot ride a bicycle. Just standing on the front deck of my boat running the trolling motor and 2 hours later my legs are exhausted from having to balance myself.
My case was extreme and other than bad balance I have fully recovered. Its no joke.

CCTX would be the one I'd ask about it. Yeh. The shortness of breath was what got me fired up. I didn’t do anything physical either time this has happened. I came from a week of running and gunning in northern South Dakota. It was really cool weather. Low 60’s-upper 80’s. I didn’t notice a thing till I stopped for fuel in Oklahoma. The heat hit me like “wow….it’s brutal”. But, I work in the heat and always have. I have never felt like this. Doctor prescribed Meclazine. Don’t know what it does. Haha. I don’t like taking meds. I was really more concerned about the breathing.

Heat-induced symptoms - I left my job this morning at 0900 as I couldn't justify (at 74 years old) staying out in the sun for the rest of the day.
I will be transitioning to a different employment (within the County) this coming Wednesday that will be indoors or in an air-conditioned vehicle for the duration of the assignment.
Life is too short and I don't want to be found on the pavement gasping for air in 100f + environs. Our "real feel" up here was 106f today. In Wisconsin. Y'all are not the only ones 'enjoying' this heat wave. BTW, the summer of 1980 (Look it up) was God's way of challenging this Yankee. I lived through it and more, but that was 40+ years ago. I thought I could tough it out through August working on a road crew up here, Nope, I gave it up today, I still have some years to live and fish and enjoy all the NorthWoods has to offer. My boss understands my feelings and supports my decision.

I get it. Looking up can be hard. No shortness of breath.
