What do you consider surf that is too rough to kayak safely in?

I just got a frenzy kayak. I took it out in 2.5-3’ waves, 5-6 interval. It was pretty sketchy! Pretty choppy and rough. Got dumped on the way back in. I know it’s a little small for me (6’4”, 260 lbs) and I was super nervous, so probably stiff. When do you call it to safely deploy baits in the surf? Anyone a fan of the frenzy? I hear it’s one of the best.

I have a Malibu. lol. I've been launched out of it many times, usually coming back in from dropping a bait, but I've wiped out before getting to the drop. I no longer do that, so it's all too rough for me now. But, you'll know when it's more than what you are prepared to deal with. 3 footers on the beach are huge. But it's not just that. The current can grab you and before you know it, you're 100 yards down the beach and made no headway. There's your sign.

2.5 is probably my max. I've been in worse and usually it takes a couple tries to get out and a floating yard sale coming back in. The period is just as important as the height. If the wave sets aren't close together you can sometimes beat them in or out. If the period is small then it will be challenging to get out and it will be uncomfortable while out there. I've been caught out in 5 ft seas where my fishing partner and i could only see each other when we were both at the crest of a wave. It wasn't that uncomfortable as the period was pretty good.. Lost my prescription glasses coming back in on that one.
I fish on a 14 ft piece of plastic.

the frenzy has been one of the more popular kayaks for taking baits offshore, for a long time... but for a guy your size, give yourself a pat on the back.. You need something that will carry your weight much better... Something in the 12 to 14 foot range. The good news is if you get more experience in the Frenzy, you will be a pro level paddler in no time. Learn to bring the kayak in backwards through the surf.. point bow into waves and let it push you back to shore.. much less likely to get dumped doing it that way as it is easier to keep bow into wave than to try and surf it in and lose control. good luck

Zero feet for me. Swimming out shark bait, while being shark bait.
