In reality it better to get like Wells fargo Credit Card 2% back on everything.

Don't get tied down to one airline.

if you value your time, "private" air travel is so much better than commercial these days

see if any of the cards you have now offer miles on another of theirs, save the hit on your credit.

if you get a new card, get one tied to the airline like the united di posted, whole lot less hassle redeeming them I would think

This; Airline Rewards programs are like non guaranteed NFL contracts. They can change the rules at any time.

Choice Hotels and Hilton Hotels often run promotions for their cards whereby you charge some fixed amount on the card over the first three months and get awarded a big slug of points (enough for 2-3 free nights).

Depends on where you're flying out of and your expected destinations. You're in San Angelo, so you might get more use out of a Southwest card than American, but if you're willing to drive to Austin to start each trip or if you're planning to go overseas, then AA might be the way to go.

Most all CCs will give bonus sign-up miles. You and your wife might each get a CC under different accounts and double that up. My aunt and uncle did that with Hawaiian's card and instantly had enough miles for a round trip for both of them to Maui.

I have all my utilities, insurance, etc. automatically billing on miles cards, and a separate business card for all business expenses - both for AA miles. They do bonus miles for certain transactions and it periodically changes. I get double miles when my phone bill goes through and a few other things. It definitely adds up, I've got well over 400K miles in my account, and I haven't even had the cards for 5 years - and I've used miles as well.

My best recommendation is to go to this site and look through the current offers to see what meets your needs. I don't think they list every card, but it will give you a really good idea of what's available. Also if you're concentrating on one airline, be sure to click the button for that airline to see all the card offers just for that one. And be sure to pay attention to the annual fees, they tend to get glossed over.

Also, when using miles, check the ticket price first. You don't want to use 30K miles when you could buy the same ticket for $249.

Chase Sapphire. Lots of flights through Airline miles. Just got a new American Express that’s $700 a year but my wife can get for free thru her job at Morgan Stanley. Pretty good perks on it.

I have a citi American airlines platinum and an Amex platinum. I rotate them, I use them for alot of my business stuff so I run up alot. We are on trip now that 3 first class tickets were 40 bucks, and I get 200 credit for in-flight stuff so it's nice. The Amex points are nice and the no limit works well when I buy something for business that's expensive. You get 1 percent back. And over time I have got freezer, dishwashers, they run gift card deals through them so wife gets a really nice nieman marcus gift card every year. I don't shop cards so I don't know who does what. Those 2 just work for me.
