consignments are generally a bad idea the price goes up an if you are having a hard time selling it now imagine it at a higher price. also anyone that has a brain in their head wont buy a used boat without a demo an sometimes if you are not the owner demos turn into fishing trips or joyrides. if your boat is not selling at a price you have been asking for a while then it is priced above the market. if you are looking at nada for your market on a legend boat half of the new boats were not sold for what it says it worth.

In my opinion, most of the boat consignment places are a rip off. They have a bunch of crappy over priced boats laying around to make the one or two boats they are really trying to sell look like bargains. They will take the cover off your boat to show it to someone and not cover it back up for weeks. They will borrow your battery to start someone else's boat. No telling which battery makes it back into your boat. They will siphon gas out of your boat. Then they will lose your keys and/or title.

All those overpriced consignment boats are owned by proud owners who think they are worth more than they really are. You get to set the price and dealer takes a percentage or flat fee.

I sold my last boat on consignment and the fee was reasonable, I dropped it off, he detailed it, sold it within 3 days and I had my money as soon as boat was sold.

Was the easiest I have ever sold a boat.

Biggest problem selling a boat is most the people who show interest have $250 in the bank and 400 credit score.

What city?
How recent?

Consignment sales have their place. A person who acquires a new boat and doesn't have room for two might find a consignment seller to be the best alternative, as would someone who needs to sell a boat but is out of town a lot. Not all dealers are disreputable. I have a boat that would be hard to sell in this area, and a consignment sale further up the coast is one of the options I'm considering. Fortunately, I have some other options, so I don't have to rush to a decision.

Years ago I took a F/S cajun to a consignment place it was there about 4 weeks. Went by there one Sat. on my way out of town and it wasn't on the lot. I thought great someone is testing it or it's sold so I stopped to inquire no one there could tell me anything. Just about the time I was getting a little upset one of the guys that worked there pulled in with my boat and his family loaded down with ski's and tubes. they had been out on the lake all day in it. I hooked on to my boat and brought home. It took about a month to sell but it was worth it.

used boats are in pretty good demand the higher the price harder to sell if it has been listed for over a month an it hasnt sold then it is priced too high.
