Teu'poo in Tahiti Mavericks in Halm Moon Bay, Ca Jaw / Peahi in Hawaii Cortez Banks down around Baja. That one is cool because it's about 100 miles off shore. They actually surf a sea mountain top. Wiamea Bay in Hawaii. Nazzare' in Portugal Spreck's outside of Sprecklesville in Hawaii. Laird Hamilton swears there are 125' waves here. The Right down in Austalia Shipstern Bluff in Australia - another that's out in the middle of nowhere.
Those are a few of the ones I can remember off the top of my head that I have come across. Can Mavericks and crank those out?Supposedly there is no heavier waves in the world, like just the mass of the water in the wave, than what they're surfing at Mavericks. Yes. Mavericks can. One of these days I am going to have to make it out there when it is breaking. I'll show those kooks how the real pros hang 10. All ten off the tip with the maw right on my tail!

And before you say I don't have the skills, that I'll kill myself...let me assure you, I've seen Point Break like 50 times.
I'll be good.

Those are a few of the ones I can remember off the top of my head that I have come across. We were on Oahu in December 2008 and had just hiked up Diamondhead after breakfast. We had a rent car and decided to just drive the coast hwy all around the island. When we got to the North Shore, we stumbled onto the last day of the World Surfing Championships. It was amazing watching those guys ride those monster waves.

Go in the winter when they hold the Tiransof Mavericks competition. All joking aside, I really would love to go out there and check that out.

Never been there in winter when the waves come up.

I know that camera angle at Nazare’ makes the videos and pictures look cool, but it is just a little misleading. I would really like to see some footage from someone videoing or taking pictures at the beach level. Even on the HBO documentary series, they always film from the building on the point.

I've noticed this before.

That board looks like it would work well on the Gulf Coast.

I grew up in West Palm Beach Florida and surfed religiously from the time I was 14 years old up until about 25 years old. Then life smacked me in the face and I had to go find a job and my work carried me inland. Biggest waves I've surfed were at Reef Road on the south side of the Palm Beach inlet. I've surfed several times when the waves were 15 to 20 feet there. Yes in Florida. I did not know Kelly personally but I have surfed along side of him many times when we made the two hour trek north to Sebastian Inlet. Kelly is a great surfer and being from Florida was key to his success. Florida has more sloppy wave days than perfect glassy swell days and when your a master of sloppy conditions it pays off on tournament day when your left to surf whatever conditions exist. Me when I was 17.. 36 years ago
