I’ve never served, but I am always interested in the big wave surfing books, shows, documentaries, and events. The power in size of waves that are 50’ + is amazing to me. Read a couple of books that are very good and send some documentaries that are really good as well.
Riding Giants (yes, I know the obvious, just try to be mature) is a very interesting documentary about the genesis and pioneers of big wave surfing.
100 Foot Wave is a docu-series on HBO that was pretty good, though it was more about one serve break, Nazzare’.
The Wave, A really good book by Susan Casey it’s not just about big wave surfing, but about treacherous oceans everywhere in the huge waves that happen.
Anybody else captivated by huge waves??

I fish for bass from a skeeter. Big waves are the enemy.

Grew up in multiple Asian port refinery towns. The ocean and water has always been fascinating. Watching ships on the water and waves in the ocean as I walked to and from the refinery schools were highlights of my day.

CCTX, i’m not sure if you are a scholarly individual such as myself and enjoy reading, but if you are, you would love that book. It’s more about the anatomy of big waves than anything, which I found highly interesting.

Always have been very interested in this. The small movie Unstoppable is a good watch if you love the surf...this young Lady is amazing. The entire sport of Giant wave surfing is no doubt for a special few.
Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

I've always thought dudes like Laird Hamilton and Dave Kalama and the rest of that whole Strapped crew were super squared away. Those guys have always impressed me.

Anybody else captivated by huge waves?? Yep. I love watching it as well as the lore if it all. Those guys are badasses. Just them against nature. Jeff Clark is a living legend. He did it with no safety precautions for years. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-uqE0Y4FOo&pp=ygUXZmluZGluZyBtYXZlcmlja3MgbW92aWU%3D

You don't have to have served to surf. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2023/07/full-111793-191838-img_1318.jpeg)

My wife has always wanted to surf, just one of those little dreams of hers…………..so where are these 100 foot waves ? Tahiti has a little of that. Off the coast of Portugal is another break that can produce those. There aren't too many places that can kick up 100 foot waves. Anybody know of any others?

Teu'poo in Tahiti Mavericks in Halm Moon Bay, Ca Jaw / Peahi in Hawaii Cortez Banks down around Baja. That one is cool because it's about 100 miles off shore. They actually surf a sea mountain top. Wiamea Bay in Hawaii. Nazzare' in Portugal Spreck's outside of Sprecklesville in Hawaii. Laird Hamilton swears there are 125' waves here. The Right down in Austalia Shipstern Bluff in Australia - another that's out in the middle of nowhere.
Those are a few of the ones I can remember off the top of my head that I have come across.
