? I have installed well over 75 pans the way I described, never a leak or problem with any of them.

the dual layer is a very thin setup, maybe they have some new type of thinset but the stuff I worked with had to be at least 1/4" thick to be durable.

the pvc pan is just a leak prevention, it is not what should be keeping water out though.

sure am glad I am out of the contracting bus. some of the stuff I see now makes me scratch my head. grin

Hop, I suspect that was the way to install them. The guy that did this 20 years ago did good work. His other work is good this many years later. Started busting that mortar bed out and I'll tell you he did a solid job on that.

Supposed to have a pre-slope under the liner, very few tile installers do it, because it takes longer. For a billion years, I didn’t do it, never had any issues either. But I’ve been doing it (pre-slope) for 15 years or so now, biggest advantage to it. If your liner gets a small hole, very little water would go out of it. If you have it flat on the concrete and get a small hole, it’ll all drain out that hole over time.

You also have to put silicone between the drain body and liner, then drill out the weep holes and don’t fill them full of mortar when packing the mud bed.

Pretty much what PlumbCrazy posted. cheers

Just about done ripping it all out. There was mortar packed in around the weep holes, no gravel or anything. There were wrinkles in the liner and a couple of low spots in the slab that weren't leveled. The liner and mortar bed were dry when I got to the drain area, the edge had water standing level with the top and was not draining at all. Moisture had wicked up the HardiBacker about a foot and deteriorated the HardiBacker, luckily there was little damage outside the liner.

Thanks for all the advice guys!

Hardi will wick, one of reasons why I don’t care for it, but it is harder than the other backers. Durock, perma-base and wonder board won’t wick; but they are softer.

I only pulled tile loose from the curb but the entire perimeter of the shower stays wet. I measured the depth of the mortar bed against the curb and it's 2.75". The liner is on the bottom of that, I'm thinking instead of a slope bed and then liner the install guy put the liner on the bottom and did the mortar bed on top without anything to slope the water to the drain.

I'm thinking it should be installed like this.

Instead it appears to be like this.

Yep, Frisco actually checks for slope under the liner and will redtag if its not.

I have no doubt about that

The strict building codes was a factor for me moving to Frisco.
