North TX Anglers,

The City of Pilot Point Chamber of Commerce is holding their 1st, soon to be annual, fishing tournament on Ray Roberts. There will be many food, craft, and local vendors for you to enjoy. Have your family come down around weigh-in and enjoy the festivities.

I have the honor of aiding in the weigh-in. It would be great to meet you and talk shop. cheers

We prefer that you use the Isle du Bois State Park. This will allow us to check your livewell prior to launching.

This is a team event.

From the rules:

TOURNAMENT REGISTRATION
โ€ข Registration must be completed online by September 3rd
โ€ข Tournament check-in will begin at 4:30 AM, the day of the tournament at Isle du Bois.
โ€ข Contestants will be launching from Isle du Bois prior to 6.00 AM.
โ€ข First cast at 6:00 AM, Final cast at 2:00 PM
โ€ข Boats may be inspected at check-in.

PARTICIPATION AND ELIGIBILITY
โ€ข A team will consist of two anglers per boat (it is a "buddy" bass tournament); only registered contestants may be in the boat during official tournament hours.
โ€ข Contestants under 18 years of age must have parental consent.
โ€ข Anyone born on or after September 1, 1993, must have Boater Education Certification to operate boat, including at launch.

Quick question. Is the Big Bass Pot $20 per angler or per team?

Bringing this back up...there's less than 20 boats registered for a chance to win $3000 1st place. Registration deadline is Sept 3.

If I might ask, if you're holding back or have any reservations, would you please share them? This is the first event for this group and they're looking for feedback.

Is 1st, 2nd, and 3rd cash payout guaranteed regardless of the number of entries?

For me, my reservation is the time of year this is being held. If this was setup sometime from late March to late May, Iโ€™d be all in.

Of course it is extremely hot outside. As much as I can handle heat, itโ€™s going to be brutal. The fishing is also extremely tough on RR, but everyone will have the same playing field, so thatโ€™s a moot pointโ€ฆ but the number one reasoning for me is fish care. I would not be surprised if every fish comes to weigh-in dead. If I was in the tournament, half my day would be trying to keep the fish alive; that is because I care about the resource, not because I donโ€™t want a dead fish penalty.

The payout, entry fee, and side-pot are awesome. If this wasnโ€™t in the dog days of summer, I wouldโ€™ve registered yesterday. Having a livewell full of dead bass, a weigh-in full of dead bass, and then the Isle du Bois ramp covered in dead bass after weigh in, Iโ€™m unfortunately out on it.

Thank you for the open and honest reply. I agree the heat this time of the year could be of concern. Live well fish management is going to be key and on everyone's mind during this event. We will have holding tanks with aeration and live well treatment for staging while weighing in. I hope that all the anglers we have keep the heat in mind and plan accordingly.

Administrative update...They have now added the option to pay at the ramp during registration on the day of the event. There will be an additional $5 processing fee if registering the day of.

Thanks for all who came out...we had a total of 29 boats fishing a stingy Ray Roberts. Back to back storms Friday night into early Saturday morning didn't help. We planned launch at 6:15 AM, mother nature had other ideas. We got boats on the water at 6:30 and launched by 6:45 AM. The weather cleared and the day was perfect.

Results
1st Place:
Zak / Heath
12.42 lbs

2nd Place:
Les / Jay
12.15 lbs

3rd Place:
Tyce / Calvin
8.93 lbs

Big Bass 1:
Les / Jay
5.19 lbs

Big Bass 2:
Jessica / Matthew
5.06 lbs

Only 2 limits brought in and many boats 3 fish. We heard of many folks catching 10+ fish, but all runts.

Big shout out to the Texas State Parks, City of Pilot Point Chamber of Commerce, Xcite Baits, and all the other sponsors who made this possible.
