My 2004 Merc 3.0L 200 EFI has had nothing but Quiksilver it's whole life and has never had a wrench turned on it. One can of SeaFoam in the spring along with plugs, fuel filter, and a lower unit oil change keeps it happy.

I wont tell anyone, which oil to use. But I will tell you that most two stroke oil comes from very few places. Mercury, Evinrude, Johnson, Suzuki etc.do not have any oil refineries. They buy oil and have their name on it.

True, but who else sells DFI oil for less than Merc/Quicksilver locally.

Walmart has a DFI oil, but I’m not gonna risk blowing my motor for it.

Thanks, never noticed it before, not that much cheaper and my motor uses very little oil anyway so not worth the risk...

Amazon and Walmart both sell Liquid Moly DFI oil now. It’s not a Walmart or Amazon brand. I’ve never used this brand but it’s German made and supposed to be very high quality oil and not cheap. Liquid Moly 2 stroke motor cycle oil is recommended for the Italian made Beta 300 RX Motocross bike I have on order, stated in the owners manual. Beta is pretty much the Ferrari of dirt bikes. Owner of the shop where I put new Beta MX bike on order told me Beta just switched to Liquid moly this year cause Beta thought it was the best 2 stroke oil on the market. Beta runs Liquid Moly in their factory 4 stroke 450 MX bike they run in the European MXGP circuit.

I didn’t know Liquid Moly was even imported oil into the states until recently.

It’s about 46 bucks a gallon for Liquid Moly DFI out board oil on Amazons web site. I bet it’s good oil. I’ve never ran anything but Merc DFI in my 250 Pro XS. I have 2 or 3 gal of Merc DFI. I bet next time I buy any it’s 60 bucks or better a gal.

At 46 bucks and it’s good oil I may give it a try down the road.

Liquid Moly is what my mechanic uses in my truck for all my oil changes. He swears by it. Legit stuff.

It’s Liqui, not Liquid and just because it’s made in Europe doesn’t necessarily make it better but their socialist government does make it more expensive

I haven’t seen it but I’d run it with confidence if I came across it. All I’ve seen is their 2 cycle oil.

I was surprised I spelled liquid correctly.

Thanks, Billy

There is a guy that posts some good oil test on YouTube. He tested 5-30 wt motor oil, LIQUI Moly vs Amazon Basic. Amazon basic which is the same as Walmart, Costco and others made my Warren Petroleum. Amazon basic tested better. Warren makes good oil.

I have not seen a test for outboard oil but the same guy tested Walmart 2 cycle oil against AMSOIL, like for chainsaws etc AMSOIL tested quite a bit better.

Thanks, Billy

If I was using it with a new motor, I might not mind. My motor has 600+ hours and I wouldn’t risk changing it now.

Quite a bit cheaper than Merc DFI, which is about $57 around here.

Considering the price of amsoil, it should be better. An interesting note on amsoil is that some of their products are not API licensed. They may be very good lubricants, but some of their product do not have the API starburst or the API donut on the label. So despite the fact that it may be a superior lubricant, it could void a warranty, ironically, the “cheap” oils like Amazon basics and supertech meet API and Dexos specs. Point being, if you run one of their products in your boat make dang sure it’s LICENSED for that application, not just that it’s formulated to meet the specification it’s being used for.
