I've never fished a white bass run and plan to come next spring. I've looked into it and am still confused on where I would find them on my lake, since i've been told a million different type of places.

My lake has tons of creeks, but I checked last spring and they seemed to always be dried up or only have a few inches of water. Should I try somewhere else this spring?

Also, trying to get a white bass specific rod. I found that a Ultralight was too small for my lures and Medium was strong enough for my lures but my casting distance is very poor. Does anybody here use/suggest using something like a Light/Medium light to throw 1/8-1/4oz lures? Mostly spoons, inline spinners, and jigs.

White bass will run in to the feeder channels (rivers, creeks, etc) in about March when the redbuds blossom. I've always just used my normal rods

PTasker, I don't know what your rod budget is, but, I've found a very solid and affordable rod for all-around white bass use is the Daiwa Laguna 701 MLXS. These are routinely found at Academy Sports + Outdoors for $36 to $45. This is a black with red trim, 1 piece spinning rod with a foam handle, 7 guides, a secure reel seat, and a hook-keeper. The guides withstand the abrasive properties of braided line very well over time and with MUCH use.

Disclaimer: Although I participate in a number of companies' guide programs, Daiwa's is not one of them. I'm simply suggesting something I've found to be effective and which I routinely use on my boat both personally and professionally. My Lagunas are paired to both Florida Fishing Products Osprey CE2500 reels and Shimano Nasci 1000 and Miravel 1000 reels.

Hope that helps!

I just took a look. Looks nice, but I already have a 7 foot Lew's with a 3000 size reel that is rated for 1/8-1/2 and 4-12lb test as well, and I'm not too happy with the casting distance I get on 1/4oz (using 6lb test). I can get great distance on 3/8oz spoons but I can't find them more times than not. Maybe a change of line? My swimbaits, rooster tails, and some of my spoons fall mostly in to the 1/4-3/8oz range so all I need is some distance on 1/4oz and I'm golden.
