I grew up in Groves fishing that river, but I moved off after I graduate in 2009 to Tatum. Fishing used to be incredible back then on the river, but they started dredging several of our good holes and I quit fishing there. When I go down there, we fish the Louisiana side Johnson Bayou or Coffee Ground Cove, or chasing birds if they are working.. . On the neches, run up just past the Neches park and on the north side of the river is Bessie heights cut, you can try there, we use to wear them out there... also another spot off the neches just south of the ramp, across from the Indorma Chemical terminal on the maps, all the cuts up there on an outgoing or incoming tide ( water has to be moving).
