When you buy Fairfield State park but forget to pay everyone. Linda Grant shuts down your development down.. Its amazing how you are a environmental warrior till you get paid 903-389-3335 call ask the Judge why the sudden change on her stance. 🤔 . Oh no worries the developer paid 34,000 for a prize steer at the county fair that's why.. lol. Our Judges and Politicians are truly just Mafia at this point 👉 whomever pays the most wins👈 . Maybe a bigger boot that got paid told her to shut it what happened???...

You are correct it’s obvious what happened. Politicians of any sort are crooks so much for the people as long as the commissioners and and a county judge get paid. We can only hope they all get the boot at election time.

Someone pointed out to them that there will be millions of dollars they get to spend if the property is developed. Zero tax dollars if the land becomes a state park.

They got bought and y’all know it . I doubt the numbers stated will ever come to fruition they are always exaggerated.
Y’all forget it ain’t about freestone county wants it’s what Tpwd and most in Texas want a state park and another well stocked lake to fish. We don’t need another gated community for the few.

Our Judge and county commissioners were all in on saving the park in the beginning. Then when the plans that Todd Interest had planned, all ideas shifted to loose the park and welcome the development. Fairfield State Park pays no tax dollars to Freestone County, most visitors dont even stop in town unless they want minnows, so no tax revenue comes from goods or services, from people visiting the park. With the closing of the mine and power plant Fairfield and Freestone county has suffered with loss of jobs. population and tax revenue. The development that Todd Interest proposed would generate much needed tax revenue for the county. I would say a park that only has 82,000 visitors a year is not a very popular park in a state with 29 million people. And a side not, our judge and 2 county commissioners get boats loads of natural gas royalties so bribes is a non subject. Oh and basscaster 46, Judge Grant and our commissioners will win re election when the time comes, they look out for the people of Freestone County.

Guess it’s a good thing it’s about the state and not about Fairfield tx and it’s tax base.
I’m sure no politician s in freestone county are corrupt. Lol
Either way the state ain’t going away and the park and lake will remain for all Texans to use not just a select few.

I don’t have a dog in the hunt either way. I just worked for the company that owned Big Brown and the mine. I know about all of the good paying jobs that were lost. There is no way they can be replaced. The only way the Fairfield and Freestone County tax base can be helped is by Todd developing the area that he legally bought. Nowhere in the Constitution of the State of Texas does it say that it will provide you with a State Park.
I would rather see Fairfield and the County flourish than have a State Park that less than 1% of the State population use.

Wait and see is what I would advise.

The state may not be able to take all the land if Todd wants to hold onto it.
Also when they get the valuation of the property the state will have to think hard about spending that kind of dough to keep the park open.

I believe the state is about to send Todd a second, final offer to buy his property. If Todd does not accept then the state can go ahead to the next step. I believe the AG is the one who triggers it.

It’s my guess that an interim AG wouldn’t make that kind of a decision.

Like what you are saying here, and yes those jobs can't be replaced for sure. But, there are different jobs for the younguns coming along (younger than me!) - wind and solar, right?
I have always had little luck on Fairfield going back over many years, back to the days when it was still a cooling lake. But I probably don't know how to fly fish it. So, if it's a jewel, it doesn't glitter in my eye. What I always liked about that lake is the way it felt - mature with plenty of plant life and activity. I just was never able to tap into the fish in any serious way, even when I saw tailing redfish near the hot water release! Those days are long gone of course.

You stated most in Texas want to keep it as a State Park? Using TPWD’s visitation numbers 80,000 last year that is only .002 percent of the people in the state IF nobody went more than once. If some people went more than 1 time then the percent goes down.
Numbers don’t agree that most want to keep it.
