Welcome back Captain. I very much enjoyed reading your adventure and look forward to reading many more of your reports. I hafta say that after reading the basics of your domestic situation I do believe you're one of those few rare folks who've figured out the secret to life. Good job with that.

Thanks for the correction, fisher79. I looked on the TPW site and I did not see the new license mentioned. $45.00 ? Man they think all Texas fisherpeople have $50k a year jobs and drive $40k trucks. I think we need to elect a brand new group that has not lost touch with reality.

I'd like to know why they'd charge more for it at all? It's all a matter of having the correct database set up to keep track of this sort of thing, and I assume it has been done. In fact they should all be for a year from date of purchase. Why not give the taxpayer what he wants...instead of cramming things down our throats just because they can? mad

The guy at Wal-Mart didn't mention this to me, but I found out the true one year license for $45 is actually an all-water license and not just a freshwater license. I think in light of this, it makes it a little more reasonable. Though it is still $7 more than the regular all water fishing package.

I did some searching and did find it on the TPWD site (they sure don't make it easy though):

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/business/licenses/public/recreational/

I believe it is called "Year-From-Purchase All Water Fishing Package"

Even though I'm pretty young, I remember when licenses were around $12. Even at $28, it's starting to get pretty costly. I know a lot of guys who only want to fish with me a couple times a year and they plan to buy a license, then when they find out how much it is, they want to just risk fishing without one because it's so expensive.

Anyways, sorry for taking this so far off-topic, that was a great story, though you might have some competition around Miller Rd. with all the people that read this smile

Whoee or not, that's a superbly written story. I appreciate just the amount of time and skill it took to construct something that well written, and on a fishing forum no less.

Captain Spaulding,

I guess I am one of the few who is not impressed. Lets recap;

"A nasty place called Dallas"

"Fine, I can afford it, but it's sad to see that the common man is being squeezed out of, of all things, fishing."

"Dad's pension vanished and Mom's health has financially crippled them, even though she has insurance. It's amazing that two decent, frugal people can work so hard for so long and end up with almost nothing. Add another family destroyed by drug prices to the flaming woodpile."

"This little feller was incredibly rude and it was a shock, for during the last decade I'd gotten used to police who were polite, helpful, and treasured their roles as public servants. Welcome back to Texas, son."

"Well, actually, I did have some potential contraband"

"Being an alpha dog is a state of mind, not something you can strap on or pin to your uniform."

You couldn't be a flaming liberal who spends his hateful time complaining about the government, authority, and is constantly being victimized by "the man" could you? I mean there is no possible way that YOU might actually be a trouble maker now is there???

A wee bit unneccessary don't you think?

Dallas is a little nasty, many elderly people do fall into financial trouble due to health problems, and generally at night, especially in the area he was in, the police do assume you are doing something wrong.

Wildbill you might be right. If I were to find everything Capt Spaulding said to be true I guess I would owe him an apology but man his story is filled with anti-government, anti-authority, I'm always a victim nonsense. It makes me a little angry when people go on rants against our goverment and especially our police officers.

If you noticed he hinted that police officers in Texas act this way "welcome back to Texas son" while across the pond they are so dandy. I bet that same police officer who probably saw him smoking the contraband that he admited he had would probably risk everything to save Capt Europe from harms way. Because we all know that police officers dont have anything better to do than to mess with fisherman.

He had me upset before I even read the post. The nasty place called Dallas was a pretty good clue to this fellas character.

I'm from the Dallas area and I consider Dallas to be quite the nasty place.
He never said what the potential contraband was. I think since he said "potential" it was probably not the wacky tobacky, as that is certainly contraband.
But I have no desire to start an internet argument about the behavior of the cops, or a possible flaming liberal. Sorry I brought it up, but I just felt it was an entertaining story that was well written, and while there may have been some exaggerations or facts left out, it is also very possible that it was true, and I don't think we have any right to try to prove him wrong, as that would be impossible.
