I’ll do it myself and it’ll run on solar power.
What’s going to be easiest— least amount of drilling/cutting holes in drywall and brick and least amount of duct work ?
I’ve lived in Dallas since 1983 and can only remember one week in the winter when I even considered heating the garage (February 2020)…so I don’t think I’ll need a mini split—it would be luxurious and briefly considered the mini split and adding an apartment/loft to the side garage and back/side yard…but I think that’s just more effort than it’s worth. I like to keep things simple.
My garage is well insulated and faces north and west.
It’s not terribly hot in there, but I work a lot in the garage and as a nearly oldz, my heat tolerance is slipping.
I’ll be doing this project in October/November.

There is a dryer duct above side garage that runs from the dryer in the laundry room, then above and between the main garage and side garage. The outside vent is between the side and main garage.
The main AC compressors for the house are in the side yard adjacent to the side garage.

Maybe a portable air conditioner. Or one of those chillers that uses water. Might be easier options. They might even cool better then running a duct off the house system.

I would put a 2 or 3 ton unit in, thermostat on south wall, put 4 vents on north wall and return on south wall right above the thermostat.
with attic space the duct work would be easy peasy and could be the flex pipe type.

Actually doing this project right now , standard 2 ton split unit with gas furnace, have a buddy in the business guiding me through it. Then insulating the attic above garage once completed should be glorious to be able to work on boat or tackle in nice temps while watching tv in my own “space”

My house faces west with the garage on the SW corner. From about 3 til dark it heats up so much even with the door up that it's unbearable to be in there. Higher humidity days are the worst of course. More concerning is after dark when I put the door down it traps the heat and it never cools down. Thought about doing the mini split thing for years but haven't pulled the trigger. Keep us posted on what you decide.

? what's with the dryer vent? regular unit or a mini split only needs 2 holes for the tubing. not sure how you would run an ac on solar, you gonna need some HUGE panels. lol regular unit would be my go to for more vents over a wider area/faster cool down.

Server rack lithium battery bank and and inverter to run the ac unit (from solar source) since it would likely only run while you were out there I would go with tying into your panel, if you have the amperage available, solar is iffy at best on sunshine charging, hail will destroy panels, for 4k you can probably get a standard or mini split installed and running. just a thought.

I put a 2-ton mini-split system in my 20X30 shed. Man is it nice. My zero-turn lawn mower and other lawn equipment is in a separate but attached 20X20 extension of my shed. Go out, turn on the mini-split, go mow the lawn, park the mower and open the door to a cool 72 degrees.
