I just bought a new Skeeter(well an '01) and when I load it on the trailer the nose does not get up on the roller to wench it up. Am I backing the trailer in too far or not far enough? Also where should my motor be trimmed at? it is a 200 yamaha. I am getting tired of having to wench it up by hand. Thanks for your help

You are probably a little to deep with the trailer or you dont have the motor trimmed up enough. Steep ramps can be an adventure with a skeeter sometimes. As for motor trim with mine I trim up to the point where the trim becomes tilt, in other words right at the point where is quits going slow and goes real fast when trimming up. Occasionally on steep ramps you may have to trim a little beyond the point I mentioned above or load a little shallower.

Sounds like your backing the trailer in too far. This is especially the case when on a steep ramp. The steeper the ramp the less you back the trailer in. Otherwise the nose of the boat will go under the roller when driving on the trailer. As far as triming the engine....if driving your boat on the trailer correctly you should be using very little effort from the motor. If you have to gun the engine to get the boat on the trailer than you didn't back it in far enough...we all do it though.

tooo far. back the trailer in until it(water) reaches the top of the wheel well/fender at the rear top corner. you have to drive the skeeter up onto the trailer... I set my trim right at the point where it hits the tiltrams.. (trim rams are the lower/slower ones, tilt are the faster/higher ones). your bunk boards will appear to be half in/half out of water.
just always remember- you HAVE to drive a skeeter up on the trailer.

If the nose is low you are backing it in too far. If the boat just won't power all the way up you are not backing in far enough.

Funny! This past weekend I happened to drive down to the boat ramp at Limestone and a man was trying to load a brand new Skeeter. He was up to his chest in the water behind the boat trying to guide it on the trailer while his buddy was wenching it up. I dont care how good the boat may be, if I had that much trouble loading it I wouldn't own one.

Fished out of a few skeeters, and they are a bear to load soemtimes until you learn them. I saw a guy at Limestone doing the same thing around 1 on sunday. I was in the Legend waiting on him to clear the ramp. Once you learn your boat, its no different than any other boat or trailer.

I have tried the top of the wheel wells but that varies from ramp to ramp. The best indicator I have used that is pretty universal for me has been to allow only 1 foot of the center boards in the front to remain out of the water. This pretty much nails it every time. Give it a little gas and it is a one man operation.

Backing in to far.I always leave some of the 2 front bunks a foot or two out of the water. On steep ramps leave more out of the water.I had a skeeter with a yamaha 115 and it was tough on steep ramps such as westbay when the water was low, not enough motor to push it up.Now that I have a yamaha 250 its no problem. Also if its windy at the ramp I also leave alot of the bunks showing. You should never have to use your winch unless you have motor problems.Practice Practice Practice.
