Headed there end of July for annual family gathering - first time for Okie grandkids to meet Cali granddaughter. Looking for a spot to take 6- and 3-year-old to catch a few, and maybe a spot for Papa to escape to for a few hours. Suggestions greatly appreciated!

there are some spots back in loveland where little ones could fish.

check with the local resorts also, some places in colorado have catch/keep trout ponds, you must keep what you catch and the fish can get pricey.

cache la poudre is just nw of ft collins, plenty of access but is a flowing river, make sure the kiddos have lifejackets.

that area really is kind of short on good fishing spots for kids, the resorts will be your best bet for info.

Thanks, Hop. My daughter joined the YMCA in Owasso, OK for swimming lessons for the kids and that entitled her to use the Y near Estes Park that apparently has a fishing pond, so we have that as an option as well.

When I lived in Colorado as a kid, there was a place called Trout Haven Resort with ponds to fish or skate on in the winter.

We ate all the fish caught, was not catch & release, just as hopalong mentioned. One nice thing was they furnished all the gear.

Thanks, Jrod. We will try to avoid the pay-per-pound ponds since I don't want to keep any fish. Will likely try the YMCA pond and a couple of nearby lakes: Spruce and Marys.

Not sure how long you are there, but you’ll be knocking on Rocky Mountain National Park’s door. Lots of lakes up there. I’ve only hiked to them and took a cold dip.
