Is this legal? If the “some for himself” was in excess of the two people on the boat, yes.

A fishing guide can fish with the clients and help them reach limits for the clients but the guide doesn't increase the bag limits for the boat:
https://tpwd.texas.gov/regulations/outdoor-annual/fishing/general-rules-regulations/general-fishing-regulations:
"The bag limit for a guided fishing party is equal to the total number of persons in the boat licensed to fish or otherwise exempt from holding a license minus each fishing guide and fishing guide deckhand multiplied by the bag limit for each species harvested" That is a very convoluted way to say that. Short way to say it is they guide cannot take his individual limit. He can contribute to the boat limit but he has no personal allowance. Two paying anglers and one guide = Two limits... not three.

Many of you are overlooking the statute for daily limit. On guided trips the boat limit is restrict to client's daily limit. A guide can contribute to the boat limit, but no person on the boat, (including the guide) can keep (retain) more than the daily limit

Since possession limits are twice the statewide daily bag limit, you can have up to 50 crappie in your possession. If you cleaned and stored your fish after your first trip, there should be no reason why you can't go catch another limit on the same day.

The limit is the daily bag limit. Only 25 per day. Same as shooting doves. You can't legally kill a limit of doves in the morning and another limit in the afternoon. And if a warden searches your freezer and there's 10-20 bags of fillets, you may get a ticket for over the possession limit.
A few yrs ago at LOP, people brought their travel trailers and stayed a wk of two and stocked up small freezers in their campers. Couple wardens made the rounds in Overlook Park searching travel trailers and issued a bunch of tickets for over the possession limit.

The definitions below came directly from https://tpwd.texas.gov/regulations/outdoor-annual/fishing/freshwater-fishing/bag-length-limits. I think the issue is bag limit says "that may be taken in one day". Possession limit says " The maximum number of fish a person may possess before returning to their residence. Possession limit is twice the daily bag on game". The wording is very confusing. Daily bag limit (anglers) Quantity of a species of a wildlife resource, such as fish, that may be taken in one day. Possession limit (anglers) The maximum number of fish a person may possess before returning to their residence. Possession limit is twice the daily bag on game and nongame fish, except as provided in this guide, and does not apply to fish in the possession of or stored by a person at their residence.

I guess a game warden could settle this. It's never been an issue for me. I catch multiple limits a day but I only keep what I want to eat.

My understanding for what it’s worth is the possession limit is for example if 2 buddies went out and caught 50 keepers. The one buddy says he does not want to keep them and gives them to the other buddy. He then has 50 in his possession but they were legally caught by 2 anglers. One angler cannot go out and catch 50 by themselves. I rarely keep more than 10 or so so really am not sure lol

Keeping a limit in the am, storing them and then going in the afternoon and getting another limit is illegal. It is called a “daily bag” for a reason
