Should a guide count himself on the total number of fish to keep for the day? I say absolutely not!

3 clients = 75
2 clients = 50

What do y’all think? Seeing some south Texas guides with pictures of 2 or 3 clients but fish count includes them so add 25……

Depends on who is fishing ...... If it is me,yes, then by all means count the guide ....if it is you, no, you don't need that many fish.

Unless it has changed since when I was in the game some 5-6 years ago, the outdoor annual explicitly stated something along the lines of the guide could not count his limit towards the daily bag limit on the boat. That was for boat guiding at least. Again, haven’t been in the game for years, but I recommend any guide read the outdoor annual and know it by heart.

You just ruined my fish fry ..... but with my luck, even with the guide fishing I would not end up with enough for my lone dinner.

A fishing guide can fish with the clients and help them reach limits for the clients but the guide doesn't increase the bag limits for the boat:

https://tpwd.texas.gov/regulations/outdoor-annual/fishing/general-rules-regulations/general-fishing-regulations:

"The bag limit for a guided fishing party is equal to the total number of persons in the boat licensed to fish or otherwise exempt from holding a license minus each fishing guide and fishing guide deckhand multiplied by the bag limit for each species harvested"

So it’s illegal, got it!

This! One person on the trip they can have 25, two they can have 50. Some states allow the guides fish but not Texas, I like it that way! thumb

I see a lot of pictures on the internet too! Sometimes not everybody wants in the picture with the fish, so don't make too many conclusions without the facts.

Most quality guides are too busy busting their butt to fish anyway. and i want that livescope pointed at MY jig, not the guides! If i have to go get a minnow for my hook while the guide is fishing, i'd be pizzed!

Now, as far as laws go, technically (i'm guessing here!) if one client catches 25, and his buddy only has 10 in the boat, his buddy can't help him fill his limit either but who has time to count that! once they go in the cooler they all look the same!

No time for me to fish during trips so it’s nothing I really have to worry about lol. I do know by law we are not supposed to keep any fish other than what the clients caught

Not sure why a crappie guide would be fishing anyway, especially with 2 or 3 others fighting over the livescope already.

I know a guide that got himself a nice little ticket for this exact thing when he was first starting out. He didnt know at the time that it was against the regulations, and as he told me, ignorance is no excuse. I believe he said the fine was 3 or 4 hondo and the wardens took 25 fish off the top but let the clients keep their limits. This was 5 or 6 years ago.

I have some clients that think they get an extra 25 but nope it is unlawful..... And like others have said a "good guide" don't have time to have a rod in his hand not because of chasing a minna but directing clients on getting the Limits Tackle jig on the fish and give it the right action to entice the fish to bite it....
Those that have fished with me hear "Hit'em" on most of their catches....LOL
