You do not need a license for private water

I’ve been checked on private property before. I kinda argued what you’re saying, that I was in private land. His remarks were that I needed one. So I showed it to him. Then the argument went to permission to be fishing. Which I had as well.

Think about it like a hunting license. You need one in your own backyard.

Edit. You’re right as always Dubee. I just looked it up you only need one of you transport the fish from the private waters. As in, keeping them for harvesting and they will be consumed off the property.

I had fish on a stringer to harvest when I was checked

Thanks for the offer, I really appreciate it. However, and this is nothing against you personally, but I try to avoid going to people I meet on the internet, basic safety stuff you know.

Strange, the official Texas Fishing Licenses and Packages page clearly says that "A resident fishing license is required of any resident who fishes in the public waters of Texas."
Maybe that warden either didn't know it was a private pond, or it was connected to public waters (feed by a public river) which would make it require a license, or he was just trying to meet some sort of quota. Not that I would know, I am just spit balling theories here.

I think it was because I was harvesting fish from pond that was on a persons private property. I had “second hand” permission. A neighbor worked for the land owner. The land owner gave him permission to allow a few to come catch what we wanted, but we had to keep the fish under 16”. I know he thought I was just out there where I shouldn’t have been.

Either way. I didn’t get ticketed. Just messed with. I haven’t been back. I told my neighbor what happened and he said it was common. I just laughed and said thanks….had fun. That was Powell. He’s tried to hassle me on a lake around here once too. He said I was fishing inside a buoy on the dam. I told him “no…I wasn’t…and I could prove it with my maps on my graphs(they keep a trail). The trail showed I was several yards outside of where he said I was. Then he said “from his perspective on the bank, it looked like I was inside”. Then he proceeded to tell me not to go back….I wanted to say a lot(like I was fine where I was at, saying ok would be like admitting guilt, etc) but I just said thanks.

It is what it is.

I wouldn't invite a new member to the house because you're a nice guy.

Security goes both ways.

He turned it down.

If my math is right, fishing costs about 60 dollars an hour. It really is a bad sport for frugal people. You may want to accept free things when offered.

And NO stepping foot in the water, you must be on dry land. Wading, typically need the license. The exception is if the lake is wholly within the state park (Cleburne, Tyler, Purtis Creek).
